Extra fare taken from Leap Card?

Weird thing happened to me the other day, well 2 weird things.

I was getting the bus a short distance on Tuesday.
I got on the bus and said 1.45 please, the driver asked where I was going, I said the road and he gave me a look?

Whilst on the bus I was texting the missus and she asked me to stop at the shop for milk.
The shop is 2 stops further on so I waited and got off 2 stops later.
I knew the driver was going to say something to me and he did.

Quite aggressively he said to me " Here, you paid the wrong fair on that leap card, pay the correct one the next time" , the other passengers were listening and I was a bit embarrassed to be honest.

He was right in what he was saying but I was surprised.
I have often gone a stop or 2 more with other drivers and never a word said, I know that doesnt make it right but it was like he knew what I was going to do even though I didnt plan on going 2 stops further until I got the text.

    anyway it gets better...
I logged on to my leapcard account and could see the 1.45 fare but also there was an extra .50 cent taken about 30 mins after I got off the bus ?

I have no problem in what the driver said to me as I did not pay the correct fare no matter what the circumstances but surely they don't have the right to take more money from my leapcard after I got off the bus?

I assume no other leapcard was presented to the machine after me and he could do what he wanted with my card details?

I have emailed dublin bus for clarification.

Has anyone had a similar issue?
    Thanks
    Sham.

So there is only one issue here - how the 0.50 was deducted from your card?
Could have been a €50 fine instead..

You're complaining about getting 50c deducted instead of receiving a fine for intentionally paying an incorrect fare by remaining on the bus?
    You've got balls.

Not complaining at all, if you read my post properly I am questioning the legality of the driver taking money from my card after I presented it.
I am not a serial fare dodger, it was a one off not that I am explaining myself to you..
I was debating whether to post at all.
I will gladly pay the fine if issued with it but I still want to know if the driver can take money from my leap card at will.

I sometimes forget how pure the people on boards are... :)

the driver cannot take money from the card after it is removed from the ticket machine.
    end of story

    Thanks for the reply.
That's what I thought but there was 50 cent taken after I got off the bus definitely.

it is impossible for the driver to do.
must be a glitch on the leap card end

Seems very coincidental though, Driver argues the fair which he was correct to do and then the exact amount is taken to cover the fare?
Anyway was just curious as to whether they could take the money or not.

There is definitely a time difference between the two charges on the card.

Did you take a 2nd bus somewhere. When did this happen anyway?

Tuesday morning, only journey I did that day.

Are you sure you were looking at the correct day in the history? If you got a second bus for a short journey, within 90 minutes of the start of the first journey, you would be charged (€1.50-€1.00)=€0.50.

This was waiting for the op to come back. Did the €1.45 fare also go up to €1.50 for the initial fare.

Definitely looking at the right day and didn't do another journey on that day, next journey was next morning at 7:40, fare was 2.05.

The 1.50 was the fare on Tuesday, I said 1.45 as I hadn't realised that the fare went up on Monday, I had 2 days off work so didn't use the bus on Monday.

Could be just a glitch but was just curious.

I'm just thankful I won't be locked up for Xmas, if some of the posters in here had their way I'd be locked up and the key thrown away. :)

Thanks for the helpful replies to those who read my post properly and replied accordingly ;)

I would query it with Leap Card customer support.
