Using this forum if ok because relates to bargains here

I got a Linx 8 inch running Windows 8 on Amazon lightening for 101 euro

It has 32GB memory and seems to have some usb out thingy ( dunno what it does - not very tech savvy)

I also have areservation for argos Yoga *in for 140.00 if they honour the price , and then 20 euro vouchers

Would any one be able to advise which is the best ? I prefer andriod as used to it but the Linx is a newer model, more storage on board and i read that windows doesnt actually go crazy using available memory

1 I will keep and the other probably offer here ( after asking the other half0
    thanks !1

The linx has 32GB, but it actually wont have as much useable storage as the android tablet. So I bet you'd actually fit more music/films etc on the Android tablet. There's more apps available for android, and the RAM usage isn't such a big deal, let the devices manage the RAM it will use what it needs, and close what it doesn't.

I'd go with the android tablet I think.

I actually bought one of those Linx tablets today they are a great little tablet. Very fast no trouble at all with it. Battery life isn't too bad. Browsing the internet using IE (yes internet explorer :O ) is a hell of a lot faster than Chrome on my Note 10.1 and Surface pro

You can currently get the linx 7" for £59 if you parcel motel it from ebay

I'm getting one as a HTPC experiment, its got a HDMI out and the processor can defintely deliver. Its only got 1gb of ram, but most people say performance is still very good.

    Positives
-Its the full version of windows capable of running standard desktop programs, comes with office.
-Internet explorer is actually.. wait for it.. snappy in metro mode on these tablets. It will open those sites that just won't work on android tablets still. It is imo the best browsing experience I have had on a tablet.
-The processor/performance is brilliant for its size, Its 75 euro and no android tablet will come close (even with the 1gb of ram).
    -its got a HDMI out
-Has a SD slot and can pretty much play any video file you have
-You can have a geek field day with emulators, old games etcm tinkering with them to work on a touch screen and playing with all the possibility's of a 7" machine with desktop ability.

    Negatives
-Windows 8 app selection is crap, think facebook and netflix, and thats about it, no rte player, no banking app. But as you have a desktop browser you can still do these through the web.
-Its got no apps, seriously, if your getting for a kid you will be hounded into oblivion about the lack of candy crush or angry birds star wars 16 etc. They wont care that you will be able to remote desktop to your servers from it or run a linux virtual machine.
-Controlling desktop program with touch varies from doable to useless depending on that program (excel = fiddly little cells, word = 2 inches of working space with the keyboard, photoshop = tablet flying out the window.) But hey, if you have a bluetooth keyboard, and your house/hotel has TV with a HDMI port everything is suddenly different.
-It says its 32gb, but you'll have between 6-8gb free space with windows and recovery - not much !

When these tablets were 100s of euros I would have said to anybody looking for a tablet, get an android or apple, because at the end of the day they have the features (Apps basically) people expect in a tablet that windows so sorely lacks. For 75 quid, I'd give it a go, if you can spare another 100 quid for an intel android tablet in the January sales.

should be an option when it comes out,
1gb of ram might be a limiting factor
some news stories suggest it would be free update

What about using bluestacks to run android games on this for a kid? Or is that just a really bad experience?

a little bit sluggish to load up stuff but some games work well enough
might need to tweak registry setting for screen width and height

can also run android or linux with virtualbox
