Interesting specs so probably an interesting device too!

I'm guessing it's some no name brand though.

I'm thinking about getting this, really want a tablet and this seems to have good specs. My husband had a medion PC for about seven or eight years and it never gave him any hassle. I would be interested to hear what any more 'technical minded' people think of the tablet and whether it's worth getting!

And also, will it be mental outside Aldi on Thursday morning?!! I remember queuing with my husband for his PC and it was crazy...but that's going back a good few years!

Im tempted as Id love a nippy android tablet for hearthstone, but my 3rd tablets already in the post !

heres a german review, biggest downside is it takes 8 hrs to charge. My other observation would be that it may not have great OS support, after all android L is out now and its supposed to be a decent upgrade.

Thanks for the link to the review, I'm going to get it tomorrow...or I should say, my husband is! As my Xmas present! So, it'll be hidden away until Xmas day, I'll come back after that and let you know what I think of it!!

Got it this morning, started queueing about 8.30am (was first :D) glad I did, because she opened side door at 8.40 and told us there was only six tablets in stock, gave us all a ticket and by I'd say 9.03am they were all gone.

I've compared the specs to samsung 4 tablet 10.1 and samsung are not even in the ball park with this tablet. So I'm well happy.

I got the white one. It also comes with a nifty little matching triangular shaped stand which is handy.

Will we be able to buy these things direct from Medion or wha??

I really want one, but didn't get to my Aldi until 10, all gone :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 759 ✭✭✭Moyglish

I got this today too in titanium, first impressions are great, it's so slim and light and the metal backing gives it a real premium feel. Can't wait to try it later. I see it also takes a micro sd card of up to 128gb! :D

About 20 or so queuing at my local store, I'd say they were all gone by 9.05am..

Anyone else pick up one today?

I just opened and booted mine a few minutes ago.

Just spotted that there are two small scratches on the screen - actually they appear to be under the screens surface, as the surface is unblemished - that only become obvious when the screen is on and displaying something bright!!!

    Damn!!

Has anybody got any feedback on Aldi Support???

In the meantime - if you are thinking of giving this as a present to somebody for christmas, you might just want to check for screen blemishes before the big day!!!

That's a shame lenny! I'm sure Aldi will sort you out however, probably best to get in to them tomorrow if you can before they're out of stock all over the country if they're going to replace it for you.

Whilst we're on the subject of scratches, had anyone got any idea where one night be able to get a case to fit this?

My husband queued up this morning also and got it in black, unfortunately, as it is my Xmas present, I'm not allowed near it until Xmas day, so thanks a mil to the poster who spotted the scratches, I'll get hubby to make sure mine is ok. We happened to be in a different Aldi later on today and they were all gone. I think the three year warranty is great and I know from past experience that their customer service is excellent. Thanks to everyone for posting their first impressions and reviews, I love reading them!!

Re the poster wondering about a cover, last week I was looking on amazon and I spotted one suitable, however, it wasn't available until after the release date of the tablet. If I can find it again, I'll post a link for it.

Hi guys, I'm not allowed to post any links as I'm a new user but if you go to Amazon and just search for 'tablet cover 10.1 medion lifetab', it brings up a few options...one of which is due to be released on the 18th December.

    I came across a very poor review of the tablet here;
    http://www.pcpro.co.uk/tablets/1000156/aldi-lifetab-s10346-review

I have to say though I think they must have gotten a dodgy one, I've been using mine all evening and have no issues with lag or typing whatsoever, in fact I find it rather nippy and lightning fast.

It feels like a premium product, very slick and sleek. It feels very sturdy and durable, nice bit of kit!

Also surprised to see that it didn't get much heat over on hotukdeals or get a mention here on bargain alerts.

I'm delighted with it however and think it was a great deal for €189.99 along with a €10 discount voucher

The missus got me a galaxy tab 4 for 100 euro more than this and it stutters because of Touchwiz. Wish she had of got this one.

Called back to ALDI today for a full refund, I wanted a replacement - but no joy...

shame in the few hours I used the device, it looked great!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 759 ✭✭✭Moyglish

Ush, it's pretty much stock android on the Lifetab with just a few Median apps and an Aldi app added for his measure which can easily be removed if needs be.

No bloatware on it to slow it down. Enjoy your new Samsung Tab though, I'm sure it's great! :)

Lenny, that's a shame they didn't have replacement to give you. I wonder if you sent it back to Medion would they have been able to replace the screen for you or replace the unit altogether?

    Were the scratches very noticeable?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,208 ✭✭✭bren2002

Is there a similar one from lidl? Or is the Aldi one better?

I saw an Asus one for sale in Lidl yesterday but it was only 7" and the specs weren't nearly as good as the Aldi one, so I'd get that one if you can :)

Got the brother in law to pick up one for me in the Longford store yesterday evening, great piece of kit for the price.
Anyone lookin for one should ring the aldi helpline 1800 991 828 and ask them to check their local stores for stock.
If it comes up as sold out get them to ring the store to make sure, it's what i done.
She looked it up and showed as sold out but when she rang the store they told her there was about 20 in stock at 4pm yesterday.

I've just walked out of Aldi Bray with one of these. I'm not sure how much stock they have.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 527 ✭✭✭theShire

About 16 of these tablets in d display cabinet in Aldi Ennis by my count. Either they had extra stock or they didn't sell well here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 lenny_11

    Hi Moyglish,

    Didn't try Medion...

as for the scratches, not very noticable when displaying a black / dark background, but very noticable when displaying a white / bright one!
I guess the way the light reflected / refracted on the blemish seemed to be more noticable when backlit...

any its gone now, maybe they have them in stock again, sometime in the new year...

Got a white one today in Aldi Roxboro.
    My friend got one too.

Really nice piece of kit I must say.
    Very happy with it :)

Meant to say that I got this one direct from Medion.
Does the job pretty nicely :)

Would that not just be your internet connection pal?
Nothing to do with the tablet?
Or does other devices on the same network work fine?

other devices on the same network work fine ipad ect like on 4od blackscreen with sound its the sw in it kitkat 4.4 filmon stops after few mins and also tryed on upc still the same :(

I think that's a problem with filmon itself. its been acting buggy for lots of people since a recent update.

I agree droidman, I tried filmon and it crapped out after a couple of mins tommy.

I had no problems with 4od though, that's working ok!

One that works well for me is chizytv, free on the playstore and similar to filmon in layout etc.

Don't think so. I did see some cheapy looking sub-€100 ones in my Aldi yesterday though.

I got one of the Aldi Medion 7'Tablets in September 2014. By the end of November the tablet developed a problem with the charger point. To cut a long story short I had to send it back to Medion for repair. Medion decided to replace the tablet but it took 6 weeks to arrive.

So please watch out for the USB charger point problem.

Is there anyway of upgrading the OS on this to Lollipop? Thanks!

I'm looking for a replacement motherboard for the 10.1" tablet. It was purchased a while ago, so it's out of warranty.

Anyone know if spares are available? Charging jack port broke and took some of the PCB tracks with it. Resoldering did not fix.

    Hello,

Is this tablet worth it? I see they have it on Aldi for 210.

    Thank you.

The owner of the tablet has photos stored on it and no back up made. That's the only reason for the repair.

I didn't meant if was worth it repairing your tablet, I meant is the tablet worth buying for €210

    Ah, OK.

I'm not sure TBH. The tablet isn't mine. But the headphone jack broke and as I mentioned, now the power jack.

This could be possibly due to poor build quality or how it's been treated.

Personally, I would opt for a more well known tablet like a Samsung etc. as I imagine it would be easier to get parts for or flash it with an alternative custom ROM.

I got one of these last March, and I use it constantly, making and emailing invoices during the day when I'm out on the road, done deal and YouTube in the evenings and then Netflix at night. It came with kit Kat but android free upgrade I now have lollipop on it, last week I dropped it and cracked the screen so decided to get me an iPad Air, I don't like the iPad, I loved the lifetab, it never missed a beat, highly recommend one
