Locked phone

    Hi guys

I will be buying a Moto E for a family member and as I understand, the phone will ship 'Sim-free' but locks to the network based on the first SIM that is put into it.

The user will be on 48, so is it better to just put a Tesco mobile SIM in first (phone will be bought from Tesco Mobile), get a €1.50 unlock code on ebay to fully unlock it, and then use the 48 SIM?

I do not know of anywhere that would be able to unlock a 48-locked phone (It would lock to 48 if I put their SIM into the phone first) should they wish to sell it on at a later stage.

    Thanks!
    Sam

That's quite the conundrum alright. You might want to try firing off an email to 48 & ask them on the off chance they have a solution. Yeah, I'd probably go with the tesco sim + unlock option for handiness sake.

What you've said is the best option.
Given you have the code, pop in the tesco sim and let the phone lock, then pop in the 48 sim and enter the unlock code.

My brother tried to unlock a s3 from tesco mobile to use with 48. It wasn't working when we kept inserting the 48 sim, but worked whwn put in an o2 sim. You have to use a sim other than 48 to enter the unlock code
