    Hi guys,

Just got a new bit of decking, mahogony. It is just up and is not varnished or stained. It is now wet from rain on Monday and mist / dew. What the ell should I do? Presume it needs to be dry before varnishing? I have been in touch with a painter who is talking about torching it dry and varnishing as he goes.

Any alternatives? Can anybody recommend somebody who is experienced in this sort of thing?

Starting to panic that the wood is going to rot over the Winter......

    Thanks!
    Gumby.

I wouldn't varnish a decking it would be too slippy, if it is mahogany it will be fine out in the weather till you get a good day.

For the decking use the timber treatments that soak in, bondex, sadolins etc. then all the decking will need is a good scrub and another coat each year. You can varnish the rails but bondex etc. is a better job.

Ha, I misread that and thought you woke up in the morning and somebody had stolen your decking.

I'd leave it til next summer for a dry day
then get some Osmo products and finish it off

+ 1 for this. You can use any of these products to achieve the Colour you want as there all permeable. Then just Varnish over to seal the surface in the Summer.
