Haven't been on a date or in a relationship for 3 years.

So...I was dumped by my ex who I was with for 3 and a half years in March 2012. Since then, I've not been in a relationship or even been on a date. She was my first love so it ending hit me very hard. I always have this nagging doubt that I'll not find anyone I connect with so well again. I keep thinking that was my one chance at love. As a naturally quiet and shy guy, and evidenced by the lack of girls in the last 3 years, it's looking more and more likely that I'll struggle to meet anyone.

I've kissed girls in the 3 years and had 2 one night stands but meh, nothing deeper. I suppose i'm lonely so that plays a big part in my sadness. I just long for connecting with a girl again. It doesn't help that I checked my ex's facebook and she looks happy in a new relationship. I only blocked her on it a couple of months ago! I've also noticed my confidence and self esteem are pretty bad lately. As in if i found a girl attractive I'd either have to be pissed drunk to approach her or, more likely, I wouldn't approach her at all. Anyone got any advice for me? Feel kinda hopeless. The fact my ex now works near my house isn't helping. I previously had only seen her twice in 3 years but seeing her again makes it all come rushing back.

Sorry to hear about your misery. What you have to do is forget about your ex and start socializing more. Join clubs, go to places you can meet girls and force yourself to make a move without being drunk. Most women will not entertain men who are drunk and that in itself would not do your confidence any good in the long run. You had a good 3 years with your ex so this proves that you can do it, so take confidence from that. You will find it hard to forget about our ex if you don't make the effort to meet someone new and quit looking at your ex's facebook page, not a good idea. No girls are going to seek you out or come knocking on your door, it is up to you to seek them out. I wish you the best of luck and I know that if you get out more you will eventually find love again. So cheer up.
