First Time Buyer - 2nd Hand Woes

Looking at getting myself a proper watch for Xmas this year and looking for some advice. I've been following the forum for a few months and had a read of the threads & stickies.

Considering buying 2nd hand and just wondering if there is anything specific I should look out for? Found one on Adverts I like the look of here, seller has no feedback, no previous sales etc. Should I be concerned? What can I do to avoid disappointment?

I'm open to other suggestions, I am fond of Breitling though. Budget would be in around €500-€1,000.

I would like a silver bracelet or both silver and leather like in the advert above would be even better. Watch would be for everyday use.

    Thanks

I would ask the seller to meet at a jewellers to verify authenticity. Dawson Jewellers would be good, as I doubt if Weirs or Sheerans would be interested in authenticating a piece at this time of year (pre-Xmas rush). I've had the Colt in the past, and it's a very nice piece, so best of luck with it.

Thanks for that. Your right, if I'm spending that much money I should go all out to be sure. Any idea how much they would charge for that if at all?

Any recommendations on where to get it serviced or cleaned?

    Thanks for you help.

I meet some one in Paul Sheerans and they authenticated on the spot for free that day.

Longines are typically a good buy in that price range. Check out the Conquest / HydroConquest.

Thats a nice watch. But bear in mind the added costs to you when buying.

For example the leather band currently on it has been worn and cant be restored or cleaned
I know I wouldnt wear a watch on a band someone else has worn. So if you want a nice Breitling Strap for it your looking 200ish.

Also the metal bracelet is fairly scratched so if you want it looking like new a Jewellers is gonna look for about 80 -100 to clean it up for you.

Also its an automatic watch from 2009. More than likely gonna need a service. Your looking at another 350 and thats only if its a basic service if it needs work your looking at more.

    CGG.
