Moto G Water Damaged :(

So after mg original Moto G breaking, then getting fixed and finally being sold I then bought the Moto G 4G in white.

I was very happy with it and I've only had it for less than 2 weeks now.

I was in the shower last night and my phone fell in the sink but to my surprise the display didn't turn off and it remained functioning. I took it out straight away and dried it off though.

I then looked it up and remembered that most Motorola phones as of late come with a water resistant coating, not a water proof coating however. I even seen a video where the phone is under water for 30 minutes and not a bother to it!

So I decided I'd test it myself, had the sink half full, phone in and not a bother. Great I thought, and got dressed.

When I opened it up to dry it off I noticed a tiny bit of pinky-red water, just a drop and I dried it off and went to bed.

Got up this morning and it won't turn on, no vibration, tried holding the power button for a few minutes, put on charge etc but nothing.

So I now have the phone in as much rice as I could find and I've left it in the hotpress.

I have no idea what do to now and I don't suppose Tesco would be much sympathetic to me?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

    Seriously?

Have you tried a bowl of rice?

I've a Galaxy S5, and I won't test it's capabilities under water! Water damage would not be covered, and would be spotted in any repair, so really, you're talking about an out of warranty repair. Leave it in the rice in the hotpress for several days, battery etc out.

Really, I think it may be beyond saving, but miracles happen!

Yeah, absolute idiotic thing to do right?

I think because the water was so cold as well that it didn't exactly help.

Yeah, it's totally covered in rice in an airtight container in the hot press.

The Galaxy S5 actually has an IP water resistant certification though so it will definitely work fine so long as all the ports are sealed.

I haven't a clue what to do and I doubt Tesco would be understanding about it.

Battery is unremovable so I can't take that out but I took out the sim and the micro SD card which actually felt a bit damp.

I know. And I still wouldn't do it! It's resistant. Not proof. And it would happen to me. :D

There's a lot of Landvo L200's floating around for cheap. Might be an option for replacement!

Tesco will do absolutely nothing for you, and rightly so.

Why, oh why, would you do such a thing? As mentioned, even if my phone had the highest IP certification out there, I wouldn't even think about testing it out underwater!

Now is not the time to be thinking about food!

Thanks for the recommendation but I don't want a replacement, just want my phone fixed!

Hope the rice sorts it out.

I'll contact them anyway and see what they say in regards to a repair be it in warranty or out.

I stupidly pushed my luck too far I guess.

You learned a lesson the hard way. lucky it wasn't a €500 phone you tried that on. Maybe use it as an excuse to buy a higher spec phone which is certified so your curiosity will have a safety net... Then again you will probably drop it off a building in an armoured case to find they too are not entirely shock proof.

I do hope it springs back to life for you, you never know :)

If its water damaged it may not even be worth your while attempting a repair.

Don't try turning it on, or charging it. That will fry any electronics in it!

So I decided I'd go have a look to see how it was doing.

To my surprise and awe I seen the little LED blinking in, buried in the rice.

Was talking to my girlfriend at the time and she responded and I heard the notification come through both my phone and my tablet!

Sound works, touch screen works, front camera and back camera works.

It appears to be very much alive!

Motorola, I'm back to loving you.

    Something interesting I noticed.

It's been in the rice in the hotpress since about 9 this morning but I looked at the status of the phone and it's only been on about 3 hours and 20 minutes!

That must be about when the water all dried out.

Technically it is water proof but to a certain degree say 1.5m
