Got the mail last night too. Went through most of the check out just to see the shipping costs - $12 shipping or something like that. So I cleared my cart. I may get the ebook.

He's considered the guru of responsive, yeah. He was the one that coined the phrase. He sort of 'introduced it to the world' at a talk in US in... 2009, I think? Maybe 2010. It's up online and is worth the watch.

You should also read this: http://alistapart.com/article/dao/ by John Allsopp (I try to read it once a year, to be honest, as a reminder). That sort of inspire Marcotte then to write this: http://alistapart.com/article/responsive-web-design

As for him being the guru these days, I don't know. He's more "the father" of it, I think. I think there's those out there now that have taken it further.

Here's one of the "guru's" latest sites, for example: http://unstoppablerobotninja.com/
There's a lot of things on that site, the menu for one(!!!) that aren't very responsive! So he hasn't tested it enough really, but I'm sure he'll get around to fixing it, especially if he's trying to promote his new book on the home page of that site!

And here's a quick interview outlining what's changed in the recent second edition.

Allsopps book mentioned above gets brought up.

And his technical editor's site: http://styleguides.io/ is pretty bad too from a responsive point of view. From a coding point of view, the whole site is basically made up of list elements!
