Biology/Chemistry Leaving Cert Book Recommendation

    Hey,

I'm trying to figure out if there's such a thing as a Biology and/or Chemistry Leaving Cert book which contains worked or indeed any solutions for the exercises within?

I've been trying to find one online and had zero luck; all of the publisher websites mention Teacher Resource CDs and so on but not whether there are any solutions there.

In failing that; is there any particular book people would recommend for Biology or Chemistry?

I'm also trying to look for a Junior Cert Science book with the same kind of thing; worked solutions or otherwise to all the exercises.

    Thanks!

Are you a teacher or a student?

Publishers do provide solutions for some books but only provide them to teachers, e.g. Edco do it through their website once the teacher is registered and Edco know that the book is used in that school.

I'm not a teacher; and technically not a student either. I'm thinking about maybe sitting Biology and Chemistry but the resources out there for anyone not in secondary school or a particular course or other appear to be completely nonexistent.

Is there some reason why solutions aren't made available?

Probably because if the solutions were available online then students would just copy them for their homework.

Buy a textbook, use examinations.ie for past exam papers and marking schemes.

Personally I'd recommend Chemistry Live by Declan Kennedy from Folens and Biology by Michael O'Callaghan from Edco.

There are plenty of resources out there if students want to plagiarise and cheat; solutions might actually help students who gave a crap and wished to optimise learning and actually succeed.

What do home taught students do? Or self taught students? Or small adult learning groups without a recognised school attached?

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll take a look at those two.

Solutions to the questions in a textbook are the fastest way to cheat at homework. And there are plenty if students who would take this option if if was available to them.

Publishers are in business to make a profit. Their target market is school going students. They would get little return on producing bespoke resources for external students. I'm saying this as a textbook author.
