Thanks so much for your help , just wondering what the total price of this build would be and I don't have a landline just WiFi so can I connect with this?. Sorry if that's a stupid question

You need a wifi card for wifi. They're only about €15.

    E.g.,
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-TL-WN881ND-300Mbps-Wireless-Express/dp/B006BSPTAQ

However, don't expect great results from gaming on wifi. It's alright if you're just downloading a few bits, but multiplayer that requires low latency is shoddy.

A proper wired connection is best, but if you do get some kind of a proper broadband connection in and don't want to run wires every, then homeplugs are the next best thing.

How does the internet get into your house?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 whitepuffin

    Wireless modem

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,315 ✭✭✭✭the_syco

    Wireless modem
    Homeplug may or may not be needed. It comes down to the following;

Where is the nearest Vodafone aerial?
Is there line of sight between your house and the Vodafone aerial?
Which room of the houses do you get best reception?

If your room has the best view of the aerial, then no homeplug is needed. If you get the best signal at the other end of the house, consider a homeplug, or a very long ethernet cable, to connect your new computer with the current wireless modem.

Also consider the "poor mans wifi" to boost your wireless signal if you do have line of sight, but have a long distance between you and the aerial, or if you'd benefit having the aerial on the roof (and if so, consider a surge protector between it and the computer).

Poor man's wifi might be an option, thanks for the advice. Does anyone have any opinions on the two builds in this thread. Would you change anything?

Hard to say puffin. You never posted prices of your parts.

At a glance I would get the gigabyte gtx 970. In my opinion the best of the bunch.

Wouldn't get that psu. Be quiet 500w.

Have you considered You could get an I7 devils canyon. With a stock speed of 4 GHz. If you get a different mobo and ram.

Case wide I'd get nanoxia deep silence 3.

Ps nothing vastly wrong with either builds just matters of opinion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 whitepuffin

I edited in the prices of each forgot that bit.

What mobo and ram would you suggest if I were to go with the I7 and what's wrong with the psu if you don't mind me asking, still a novice at this

How great a difference would the I7 and 5 be?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 whitepuffin

Ok so after a bit of research and a bit over budget what do you think of this?. How much greater would this builds performance be to the others?

    CPU: I7 4790k 4.0 ghz quad core processor €310

MOBO: Asus maximus vi hero atx lga1150 €171

    MEMORY: corsair vengeance 16 gb ( 2x8 gb ) ddr3 1600 memory €153

STORAGE: samsung 840 evo 120 gb 2.5" solid state drive €80

STORAGE: western digital caviar blue 1tb 3.5" 7200rpm internal hard drive €50

VIDEO CARD: gigabyte gtx 970 4 gb windforce video card €361

CASE: nanoxia deep silence 3 €63

POWER SUPPLY: corsair cx 750w 80+ bronze certified semi modular atx power supply €86

    Total is €1274

    Hi whitepuffin ;)
are you going to be overclocking?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 whitepuffin

Alright monk, this will be my first build so I won't be straight away be I definitely want to yeah

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 429 ✭✭IrlMonk

    Cool, just making sure.
Nearly made that mistake myself by ordering the wrong CPU.
Sure your always best to include a clockable cpu and mobo if it's a possibility down the road.
Good luck with the build ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,767 ✭✭✭SterlingArcher

you really don't need the 16 gigs ram. No game will ever need 16 gigs DDR3 ram. Fact.

The mobo again does not need to be so expensive. An Asus z97 A will do.

The devils canyon I7 is a sweet chip.

You will be gaming on ultra settings.

The PSU try a be quiet 7 600w. Your rig even with 2 cards and overclocked will hit 500w. Any cards in the future be using even less.

Ah no bother thanks for checking anyway.

So 8 gigs is fine then? Yeah I was unsure if I needed the maximus that'll knock a few bob off the total. I'll change the power supply too just wondering if there's anything else I'll need?

WiFi plugs. Will see them linked a lot in builds I can't link it right now. But does the job better than the wireless card. Can get em on amazon hell Argos has them.

Get yourself a surge protected 6 pin. ;)

Don't forget to include for an aftermarket cooler as suggested by Genghiz Cohen.
You never put it into your list.

Same ram as myself. And ask away. And you mean 2 x 4 gigs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 429 ✭✭IrlMonk

No need to go lp, standard ram will be fine.
Not unless your running a tight ship and airflow is a concern.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 whitepuffin

Haha yeah I meant 2x4 and I also meant do I need two sticks(?) Of them

Well two sticks can be better if one goes your pc is not down. But your shout.

I might as well then, would it be worth getting a 250gb ssd instead of 125gb do you think?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 429 ✭✭IrlMonk

I personally would just have a 128 ssd for the os and install of software etc,.
Then have a seperate ssd for your files. The size of that ssd is up to you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 whitepuffin

Ah ok that sounds like a plan thanks

I'm just gonna leave this here

Dying Light PC specs recommend 16gb of ram

**EDIT : They've actually put them down to 8gb after a day of saying 16gb. Although I would look at this and other poorly optimized (But otherwise good looking) games such as Watchdogs and AC Unity, as being a newer standard for whats needed. 16gb would be worth an extra few quid in my opinion.

Thanks for the advice, I'll probably need 16gb in the future but funds won't stretch now :-)
