Carpet tack strip to hang small rug on wall?

I have a small decorative rug (76cm x 134cm) I'd like to hang on my wall.

    I've heard of two approaches:

    1) Screw piece of 2x4 to wall and glue hook&loop strip. Then glue opposing hook&loop strip to rug. Stick together.

    2) Screw a carpet tack strip to wall. Hang rug on the tack strip.

I like 2 as it doesn't involve messing with the rug by glueing anything to it, but my experience of carpet tack strips are that the nails only stick out a little bit (plus only out straight rather than pointing upwards).

Is there a special kind that has longer nails that point upwards that would suit my requirements?

The nails in a carpet tack strip stick out at an angle and should only stick out far enough to grip the backing which should be enough. Anyway according the link below you could secure the carpet to the tack strip with a few upholstering nails.

Another reversible approach would be to "invisibly" secure the rug to a length of wooden dowel with some fishing line (monofilament). Attach a piece of nylon cord to the dowel ends and hang from a nail, hook etc, this allows you to move the rug elsewhere, adjust for height, position etc and is easily reversed so no damage to rug or walls.

Just curious... the wikihow article just shows a piece of wood (which they call a tack-strip) but it doesn't appear to have the small gripper nails.

Is it assumed that the wood they show has gripper nails sticking on the top edge or is it just simply a plank of wood that you nail the carpet to?

The text tells you it's carpet gripper/tack strip. The images in that article are drawings not photos.

So yes it's assumed the wood has nails sticking out?
