Hello. Was just wondering is there any place in maynooth where you can buy heating oil by the drum?

Try a few service stations. If they haven't got it, they may know of somewhere.

Hi, I got €150 of oil on the 18th of January. Only heating two rads and the hot water (for one person), and it's gone! Just over a month later. Surely that's not right?

Possible. How many litres for that? How well serviced is boiler? Pipe and house insulation? Lots of factors to consider. So it might not be that excessive if all the above is poor quality.

€150 probably only bought you a max of 150L, possibly less.
Lots of oil companies have a min delivery order of €200, and at that, it'll be a crazy price.

    Also..

Was it kerosene or diesel that you bought.
Was it a delivery or did you fill containers.
How many litres did you get.
    Have you a condensing boiler.
    When was it last serviced.
    How many hours of use.

But... I think.. that's about normal usage, given the small amount bought will have been bought at a high price per litre.

Best to be buying oil in larger quantities

We're going through about 120Litres oil per month in the winter in a very well insulated house with supplementary solid fuel heating going every night for 6 hours+.

Your cost sounds high, but only if your insulation is good, boiler is serviced, and timing for heating is reasonable etc.

Boiler will be short cycling on this low requirement too (like stop starting your car) making it even less fuel efficient
