Plex to Chromecast query

Does anyone know if you can use the Plex android app to stream video from your phone's memory card to google chromecast? Would be handy when at home for Xmas.

I don't believe Plex has any access to local media - its streaming only.

You should be able to use the Google Play Movies/Music apps

You can do this with the Avia App and the AllCast app both on the Google Play store. I think LocalCast does it too but haven't tried it.

The best app to do this is ES File Explorer with the Chromecast plugin. All the other apps I tried had some kind of limitation.

+1 on this. By far the easiest and simplest way.

Just make sure your video is mp4 or mkv with a supported audio codec. AC3 5.1 DTS audio won't play and neither will avi files directly from an Android device...

You could try a workaround with plex, not sure if this would even work. On device A you could set it up to act as a server in the plex settings. Then in device B you could connect to device A and cast to chromecast.

I use LocalCast to cast from my Plex Server, PS3 Media Server and my phone memory to the Chromecast.
