Just wondering if any one else on here is entered for next year or wants to share their experiences from previous years.
The list of names on the website show 23 Irish entries although I'm on the GB page as I'm London based.
How does it compare with other tough European Sportives like the Marmotte or Etape?

One thing to be aware of in Italian Gran Fondo's is that they're not like ours where you have every Tom, Dick and Harry rocking up on all sorts of bikes looking forward to the 25km mark slice of cake. They're races and the bunches can be quite small. So when the flag drops the bunch fcuks off and you could very quickly find yourself alone and lonely with a long way to go to the finish! :)

This happened to a couple of mates of mine. Their first clue that all was not as they expected was when they noticed that the only hairy legs on the start line, belonged to themselves... :).

As regards toughness - it was a hard day on the bike for them. Heat and altitude combined with the last climb led to two dnf's.

Put my name down last year for this and received an email a few weeks ago that I was picked, not sure whether to laugh or cry....

The thoughts of the training ahead is killing me, looking forward to the wine and food after the event

I did the 2014 version. Great event. Passo Giau... ouch!

There will be plenty of people all over the road at this event so you will never be lonely. In fact, for the first two climbs you will barely have enough space for your own bike. It was so congested that folk were track standing up-hill. The closed roads are awesome.

For me Marmotte was hardest so taking that at a base of 100, I'd rate the Maratona at 80 and Etape 2013 at 70.

For further comparison, I'd rate the W200 at 50 :)

It's very doable if you've done enough training.

Very difficult to get places, but if you apply as part of a group then if one of the group gets in then all of the group gets in. So it helps to have a large group apply. You don't pay till later so nothing lost if people decide not to go.
