Hey guys I previously did a self build (3 years ago) with the below components (added a 256GB SSD since then) and am looking to improve the Video card. If I budgeted say €250 what would give me the best chance of running say Shadow of Mordor at a playable level?

    8GB-Kit G.Skill PC3-10667U CL9
    ASRock Z68 Pro3 (B3), Sockel 1155, ATX
    Intel Core i5-2500K Box, LGA1155
    Sapphire HD6870 1G GDDR5 PCI-E DL-DVI-I+SL-DVI-D / HDMI / DP
    Seagate Barracuda 7200 500GB SATA 6GB's
    Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 550W

You may find a GTX 770 in that price range. Shadow of Mordor is a demanding game, you would need to turn some setting down to get 1080 running somewhat smoothly for you.

In fact there is someone selling at 770 on the forum here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056460344&page=50

I would think that I might have to turn all settings down ha but put it there as the demand benchmark

    You could try downsampling also.

Consider a gtx 970 if you could stretch the budget a bit! I am looking for a new card myself at the moment and have a similar budget.

Is it worth buying a current gen card, if you will, within budget or saving a bit more and getting a gtx 970.....

That may all depend on what the 6870 is worth to sell??

Shadow of Mordor isn't that demanding, I've run it on 6870 at 1080p medium...ish settings.

An R9 280X is a nice upgrade and will easily run the game at 1080p ultra.

It ran fine on my laptop with 7970m at those settings, that's about the same speed as a desktop 7870/270X.
