So there I am 6 months unemployed and can't find work. So i have only two options from going insane: get trained/educated or do charity work.
Not fancy doing charity work tbh, id rather get trained, get skills.
So i remembered good auld FAS website and their enormous list of free courses they offer. When i checked it few months ago there was at least 30 online course alone, i am not even talking about large numbers of courses offered in training centres.

    They are all gone now...
only 2 on line courses available
nearest training centres offer 2-10 courses only

You'd be better off doing charity work, it looks better on a CV. 2 people who volunteered for the charity I managed got jobs very quickly. Both of them were quite young and wouldn't have had a lot of work experience either.

You could have a look at the springboard courses.

I wouldn't rule out charity work - I done it for a while when I was unemployed and it helped me to get a job.

The boss told me that he chose my CV out of the pile as he thought the charity work indicated I wasn't lazy and thought it impressive that I was willing to work for free to gain experience.
Even just doing it for a few weeks here and there can help fill in the gaps on your CV.

It can be very handy too - I volunteered in the office for a charity and I was allowed to use the internet as much as I liked, which came in handy for keeping any eye on all the job websites.

Its called Solas/Intreo now. FAS is gone.

FAS training centres are now ETB's, Solas is just the body that looks after the budgets etc, the ETB's run all the courses.

Also to the OP although there are not a lot of courses run in the training centres there are lots of contracted training courses run outside the training centres but still paid by the ETB's.

There is a list of training centres here: http://www.etbi.ie/etbs/find-a-training-centre/

Otherwise, go here: http://www.inou.ie/directory/ select your county and then click the radio button for "Education & Training Board" an you will find the details for you local training centre / ETB.
