I was just wondering if anyone could give me some ideas.

My sister is getting married next year and I'm of the bridesmaids, all 3 of my sisters are. We're all very excited, this is the first wedding in my family and we'd like to organise a really special hen party for my sister. We all live all over the world so I really want to make this memorable for us all, not least the bride to be.

I've been put in charge with the majority of the organising as I'm the only one who lives in Ireland at the moment.

The bride to be isn't really a wild, party animal. Willy straws and the like wouldn't be her scene. She'd like a nice, relaxed spa and dinner weekend.

The idea of the Girls Getaway in Castle Leslie is lovely but at €250 each is just too expensive.

Would anyone have any experience of something similar at other venues? If it's all organised at the hotel or a DIY idea, all experiences and ideas is muchly appreciated. I'm based in the north of the country so around there would be ideal.

Perhaps try Farnham Estate in Cavan?
Depending on the time of year, you may get a good deal, and could even look to getting treatments.
not that I've gotten treatments there, but I've been a few times and have seen hens / groups of women there enjoying themselves.

Those getaways do sound nice alright but as you say with a price...

I haven't been to this place but I have seen it on "Don't tell the bride" and another programme and it comes across as loverly Teapot Lane http://www.glampingireland.ie/ Could cover everything as they have a spa there too.

Another option would be to book a house somewhere and bring someone in to give a few beauty treatments.
Some houses you can rent for the weekend are loverly even have Jacuzzis outside or open pizza ovens. Could rent one for the weekend and get onto a local beauty place or a friend of a friend might know of someone.. Could head to dinner early or later whichever is preferred or bring it in..

Ye don't have to go out to have the fun especially if the bride isn't into to..

I know one we went on we went canoeing for the day which was great fun and then out for dinner which it was all great but we ended up going to a night club and it just broke everyone up..

Another was a spa day but it was out of the country which was fine as it wasn't as pricey

Knockranny Hotel and Spa in Westport is beautiful and their spa is amazing. Its pretty good value on their deals from time to time.

There are a good few other hotels in the town that do spa weekends too where you might find something to suit various budgets.

Westport is a great town for Hens - not too crowded, plenty of variety of restaurants and pubs, and there are lots of outdoor activities /scenic options for things to do during the day, or arts and crafts days making pottery etc.

Its pretty accessible by train and road too.

    +1 on Knockranny House!

Also, the G hotel does deals sometimes... you can go sit in their spa area I think, which has all the massage jets etc, for way less than an actual spa treatment.

Killarney has loads of great spa hotels, I'm sure you could get a special offer in one of those. Might be a bit far south!

Seafield hotel and spa in wexford is reasonable and very nice.

How north are we talking.. is Belfast / Derry an option?

You could always try Kilronan in Roscommon. Its supposed to have a lovely spa though I have never been to it myself. I have been to the hotel and its lovely. Plus its near Lough Key Forest Park which has loads of activities like the Boda Borg and Segways which seem really popular with hen parties. I know Roscommon may sound off the beaten track but hey maybe that would make it a great hen party!

Lyrath in Kilkenny is a gorgeous hotel and they do a girls weekend kinda thing.

    Not sure of pricing.

I was in Castle Leslie last week for a couple if nights and while it's a beautiful hotel, I'd reckon it would be too quiet for even the most sedate of brides. It's also very remote so if ye did want to go out it would be a lot of effort. Stunning place though.

Castle dargan in sligo is a very nice hotel with a spa. They do deals on Groupon sometimes. They have apartments on sight as well which might be handy and Sligo town is great for hens in general.

We went to Coolbawn Quay for my hen and stayed overnight. They do weekend packages too. http://www.coolbawnquay.com/
We had a start with spa treatment and a steam/sauna (pool was broken that weekend :( ), then we checked into our cottage. Had afternoon tea in the bar lounge. Then got ready for the evening, started the party with some hen-party games, cup-cakes and the girls were lovely to bring little token gifts.
Then had lovely dinner in their restaurant, absolutely delicious. The girls decorated the cottage really well, we came back there and had some cocktails and played more games... It was really fun and relaxed.

Only getting back on this now. Thanks for all the great suggestions. I don't know why I hadn't thought of going to Westport. We used to holiday there as children so it'd bring back lots of nice memories too :)
