Power jack repair or new laptop

Hi, wondering if people could please offer advice/opinions. I have a 3-year-old Asus A53E laptop. The power jack is broken. For the past couple of months, the laptop would only charge when I angled the cable a certain way, now it barely charges at all any way. It's not the charger that's broken as I tried a new one.

Would people recommend getting it fixed or getting a new laptop? I've looked around online and it seems it would be at least €100 to get it fixed? But could I expect to get another year or 2 or 3 out of the laptop afterwards? Money is tight so I'd like the most economic option!

    Thanks.

Where do you live? TechPros will do it for €79 and there is €5 off for liking them on Facebook. They have a few locations in Dublin or collect and return nationwide for €10.

Don't know your specific laptop but I've seen this with my brothers Acer and my friends HP. The charging port was resoldered to the board both times but it's weaker and likely will break again in a few months. The alternative is a compatible motherboard but that could be cost prohibitive.

On the other hand you could get another good long while out of it for a hundred quid. How's the laptop otherwise?

must have been a bad job so!

Should easily last another 2 or 3 years if repaired correctly. What happens is that the solder usually gets cracked and/or loosens around the pins on the pcb. Sometimes a quick resoldering is enough to fix the problem unless the part warrants a replacement (in which case it only costs a few bucks anyway).

That's just a botched job, you can replace the jack and secure it in place.

Thanks for the replies. I live in Dublin, must have googled it badly, don't think I found any quotes less than €100! The laptop is fine otherwise so maybe it would be worth having it fixed for €80?
