Doomsday has finally arrived for many farmers in marginal lands with the threatened retrospective clawback on non-eligible lands to 2009 being implemented. Looks like clawback will be taken out of tomorrows SFP payment. For those on line check the financial services tab on dept website to see how much you will get tomorrow. Some Xmas present.

Thank your lucky stars it was so small. Heard of some farmers caught for thousands.

What is being disputed by the Department?

Non eligible land that was claimed for 2013 SFP was penalised, some at twice the value of the non eligible land. Now the Dept are clawing back on these scrub ha for 2012,2011,2010, and 2009. They are not imposing the treble penalty, just the area of non eligible land. Will come to a substantial amount for many farmers

I heard a whisper that shortly after the EU/IMF bailout inspectors were in place scrutinising the SFP.
    Could be bull...

That sounds right. Austerity is for the little people only. Pick on the easy targets and cut their "disadvantaged" payment ...... for being disadvantaged.

If my memory serves me right, all farmers were sent a letter approx 5 years ago advising them of the necessity to update their applications taking into account all ineligible areas such as scrub etc. Satellite maps were enclosed to help in the process.
I know I knocked out a few bits and pieces at the time and consequently had a reduced payment.
Subsequently I cleared off the offending scrub and later still I had a compliance inspection.
The nice man from the dept put back in the cleared scrub areas and payments went back up again.
He had tea and cake before leaving me that evening -;)
