    Hi peeps,

Just looking for a bit of help with this one.

Im planning on buying a tablet to use(obviously as a tablet) but also as a secondary display for my laptop when i travel.

I can seem to figure how to do that though?

Most apps require a wifi connection which could be an issue.

    ideas?

    Thanks you!

Clearly a tablet with HDMI input would be ideal but not sure if they exist or not

I don't think there is any device with that functionality on the market.

There is a big difference between whether something is possible or not and whether there is a market for it.

Why do you want to do this, is it so you can control your laptop in it's bag with just the tablet on your laptop on a plane? If this is the case, then sell or don't use the laptop and get a tablet / laptop hybrid from Asus where you can undock the screen. The concept you want doesn't exist because this is better (where the power / computer itself is in the screen and not the laptop).

might work for what you need/want?
    idisplay

(try on a firends tablet first :P, as idk though, I've not tried it.)

If you're travelling, many airlines have internet now, you can also use smart phones as a portable wifi spot. (without actual data connection..will still work, just no internet browsing)

as yes, seems to be wifi only, I assume this is because tablets don't have display in, ports. (like trying to make a laptop the monitor for a desktop, isn't readily possible wired.)

So the idea would be to use it as a secondary monitor from my laptop when travelling.
Two screens would be a preference.

How to I use a wifi network on my phone without connecting to the internet ?

"portable wifi hotspot", normally under tethering settings of your phone, should work regardless of internet connectivity.

Streaming the desktop over wifi in uncontrolled environments will just be a world of pain IMO.

You can get 10-14" portable displays, but they're not great value for the limited functionality most would get out of them. I've never seen a tablet that can do the same though.
