Bought a MBP 15"

Finally moving away from windows/pc and got myself a MBP.

I've used the g.friends one here and there the past 7 months and just couldn't hack going back to my windows machine any longer.

    A few questions:

    1. Is there an app that will allow you to "cut" and "paste" a file rather than having to drag and drop it around? Not a big deal, just something I'm used to on windows.

    2. What are some of the "recommended" apps to get that will add functionality to the experience?

    3. How many hours can I roughly expect from the battery? I know I won't be getting anything near the 7 hours my other half gets on the macbook air. I currently get 1.5 hours if I'm not doing much on my current laptop.

    Thanks.

You don't need an anti virus on a Mac nervously.

    1. For cutting and pasting files, try the command shortcuts - cmd c and cmd v.

    2. Depends on what you do, but I don't really need many apps. Maybe an Onyx clean out every few months.

    3. Is it brand new? You could well get close to 7 hours.

If you are coming from PC and still have a PC in the house then paragon ntfs is a must for reading and writing to hard drives of various different format types.

Command+C followed by Command+Option+V will cut and paste a file. OSX is slightly different to Windows in that the decision as to whether the file is cut or copied is made by the second command, not the first like in windows (CTRL+X or CTRL+C)

    • Command+C copies the files or documents, note they won’t be ‘cut’ yet
    • Command+V pastes the files or documents into the new location, copying it from the original location.
    • Command+Option+V pastes the files or documents into the new location, cutting it from the original location.

It allows you to read and write from NTFS formatted drives using your mac. By default you can read from an NTFS formatted drive using OSX, but you can't write to it.
