Its crazy to look at this map and see the numbers of people effected in Africa
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HIV/AIDS_in_Africa

Imagine living in a country where 20%+ people HIV positive its just incredibly depressing that in the 21st century that we can have entire regions decimated like this.

I never knew Panti had Aids. That must have been so scary to find out back then. She's a pretty amazing woman in fairness.

There is some incredible break throughs in HIV medicines. You can control the viral load enough, not to pass it onto a HIV- partner. Also in the US, there is a fairly new drug called Truvada which they believe can prevent the risk of getting HIV by 99%.

HIV is no longer a death sentence. HIV+ people can live near normal lives with all the new medications. The key is to get tested regularly, because if you dont know you have the virus. Its far harder to control and you risk spreading it to others.

These drugs only came out in the 90s remember as experimental drugs. Who knows what effects they might have down the line.

I've met guys on grindr at times a little drunk and stupidly not been safe. I should really get myself checked out I'm thinking reading this thread.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Not real sex if it is with a condom on.

    She doesn't. She has HIV.

Very few people with HIV develop AIDS in the West, if they are on treatment. Treatment is very effective at suppressing the virus now.

    I'm glad you asked.

You see, it has to be skin-on-skin if it is to be real.

    In your opinion

Going for a test tomorrow, protection broke a few weeks ago with a random lady I met when I was in Manchester and I've been worrying myself silly ever since, googling symptoms and stuff like that. Dreading it, but will be glad to get it done.

HIV wont show in the body for up to 3 months. But often can show up within a month. But its good that you use protection.

Went to the walk in clinic in James the Monday after it happened (happened on a Wednesday night) and they gave me an appointment to come back in 3 weeks because nurse said it was too soon to test then. I'm just assuming something is wrong until I find out otherwise, so no physical contact etc with anyone.

Its obviously better to be safe and to get tested (particularly cos of all the other diseases)but google female to male transmission rates for "normal"vaginal sex, its probably vastly lower than you are expecting.
There's a reason other STD's are vastly more common in the straight community.

I know the rates are low, but I'm a very unlucky person and I won't be able to relax until I know either way!

So annoyed for getting myself into this situation in the first place.

Honestly, these days you need to boil people before you have sex with them

Yeah its a stupid thing to do but the rate of transmission is between 0.03%-0.09% for your case, the UK rate is of prevelance of HIV/AIDS is 0.3% and that will be skewed by high risk groups such as MSM and intravenous drug users. So go get tested but the risk you have caught it is amazingly low the risk you have caught something else will be much higher.
