2001 bmw 320d not starting major issue

I have a 2001 e46 320d. I was driving on the motor way doing 60mph when I look in the mirror I see blue smoke then my car pick up speed by itself I put my foot on the brake and my my way to the hard shoulder I pushed in the clutch and the car started revving and a grinding noise came then a little pop and cut out and came to a stop on the hard shoulder.

There is no warning light oil is fine and water is fine and the engine bay is spotless. No smoke came through the bonnet area only out the back exhaust. When u go to start it give 3 turns and stops for about 3 to 4 seconds and repeats itself repair truck came out and the man said it's the turbo but if it was it would start and drive just have no power anyone might no what this might be

The recovery guy diagnosis sounds to be correct. It has all the symptoms of blown turbo

i taught a car would still start with a blown turbo and all the power would be gone? thanks for the quick reply

Turbo can leak oil in to engine air intake also burned oil leaves deposits it can clog egr and throw sensor reading out.

Depending on how turbo is broken it may be restricting air flow to engine.

Most common failure is oil seal leaking oil into exhaust and or air intake resulting in clouds of smoke. turbo is spun up by exhaust to spin the air intake side.

Engine revving out of control is engine running on engine oil.

But all this is based on Internet diagnosis you need a mechanic to inspect where they can inspect and see the problem.

If it is turbo faulty they can be rebuilt or more correctly reconditioned think the price is 350 plus fitting cost. Worth shopping around
