Baptised Church of Ireland, Catholic Communion and Confirmation

    I was baptised Church of Ireland but I received Catholic Communion and Confirmation. I never knew this until last week as I needed my baptism cert as I am getting married next year? What exactly does this mean? Would my communion and confirmation still be valid without a catholic baptism?

    I know that the Church of Ireland recognises a Roman Catholic baptism, ie, to join them you don't have to undergo another baptism. Would the 'paperwork' not have been sorted before you made your Communion and Confirmation? Surely you wouldn't have been able to participate in these events if your baptism wasn't recognised.

    No, you're fine. The Catholic church accepts the validity of Anglican baptisms (or any baptism using a trinitarian forumula celebrated in a trinitiarian church). Your parents would have had to produce your baptismal certificate at the time of your first communion and your confirmation. It was fine then and it will still be fine now.

    A baptism is a CHRISTIAN baptism. I know the CofI see it this way, I hope the RC church do. I would assume they do...

    They do, and the OP's experience of having celebrated first Eucharist and Confirmation in the Catholic church, having been baptised in an Anglican ceremony, illustrates this.
