Ford Capless Fuel System

Hi All, Really hoping for some advice, appreciate you taking time to read this...

I recently bought a 2008 Ford Focus(diesel) which has the new capless system. Car is great except when I go to the put diesel in. If I pump more than a bare trickle in, the pump clicks. I have tried all angles, holding pump upside down, more pressure this way and that, and different petrol stations too. Still the issue remains. Took me 10 minutes to get €20 into her yesterday. Its a long long time when every couple of seconds you get that annoying click, and occasional diesel splash out onto shoes.

I'm wondering is there a knack that I am unaware of, otherwise next step is into Ford dealer.

Really hope someone can advise, or let me know what they think the issue is-hoping not an expensive one!

There is a funnel attachment you can buy from Ford. I think I've read about issues with Easy-Fuel before.

are you always letting it run on empty?

Air can cause this so next time try keeping nozzle a tiny bit further out.

Have had this happen on different cars.

I've the same car, you don't have it in fully. It lies far flatter than you might think, almost horizontal & not angled down which may feel more natural.

I had the same splurt splurt nonsense before I sussed it.

I struggled with the same issue with my Mondeo after getting it first. Took me about 10 minutes to fill up :o There is a knack to it alright, make sure the nozzle is straight and shoved in as far as it'll go. Let it sit at the bottom of the entrance in, don't hold it up, sideways or anything. Should work for you then :) (That description is crap, words are failing me tonight!!)
