Ring them, you'll get a much earlier date over the phone.

Just ring them (and the new arrangements re much more lenient than the old ones ...penalty points as opposed to a mandatory court appearance.

    New law?
Anyway, keep ringing them every morning and ask for centres close and not so close. You should have an appointment soon.

And yes, you can get points and fine f driving without valid nct. This has been the case a long time. Next time book in advance.

I think OP is referring to this, taken from the NCT website:
The Penalty Points system is changing. From early December 2014 driving a vehicle without a valid NCT will be a fixed charge offence attracting 3 penalty points.

I believe that if you have some sort of proof that your car is booked for a test it should satisfy the authorities.

yes indeed and as I pointed out that is an easing of the Law. It was always illegal to drive with no NCT, now , you will get a fixed penalty and 3 points , whereas before it was a mandatory Court Appearance, 5 points and up to €1500 fine.

That someone (and there must be more than one I guess) can be rushing out to get an NCT because it is "now" illegal to drive without one just shows how poor people like the RSA are at getting messages such as this out there.

That's because the RSA has no function other than to bleat "Speed Kills!". If we could just program a few foghorns to continuously bawl that into the night, they could be disbanded.
I think they came up with that slogan and went to the pub.

It does not but a nice Garda might let you off, then again they might not.

Don't forget that if you try to make an appointment and none can be provided within 4 weeks then you get the test for free!
