Audi A4 '09 Rear LED Flicker

Has anyone experienced issues with rear LED light failure, just 3 or 4 of the diodes on both sides seem to intermittently flicker or not light up at all, then sometimes they are fine...

I'm guessing it's not possible to replace individual diodes and that the whole unit will need replacing. do the LEDs just die/fail after time or could it be a case of loose connections

anyone got any advice or had any previous experience with this issue on an A4?

    Thanks.

I see lots of them around with dead led's. So it must be common enough.

    I don't know if they're repairable.

have an nct coming up in 2 months, wouldn't be surprised if they failed me on the back of those few broken LEDs

Makes it look like you got cheap eBay light units or something, bad form by VAG if they are not sorting these for people*. That shouldn't be happening, I wonder is it pcb tracks or a solder joint problem, rather than a dead led. May be repairable. I'd imagine replacement units (of similar 'quality') are eye wateringly expensive?

*BMW, for all their faults, were at least replacing any blown bulb (including xenons) last month.

If you can get at the PCB at the back of the LEDs and touch up the terminals of the faulty leds or terminals on socket of board with a soldering iron and some rosin cored solder as it may be just a dry joint especially if intermittant. Did same on the centre brakelight of a passat for NCT which was intermittant. It hasent given any problems since.

These are probably surface mount LEDs, so solder joint is on same side of PCB as LEDs. So need to reflow solder under LED.
