Does anyone know which is generally better.

Buy in Euro or click the buy in GBP button?

Their fx rates are poor. I find it cheaper to go with GBP.

    I usually pay in Sterling.

Generally it's always better to buy in the local currency (in this case Amazon's GBP). Your bank will generally give you a better rate.

OP I would normally say buy in sterling but now I take the conversion from Amazon the reason for this is I bought a iPad mini 3 for £351 when I checked with AIB FX calculator I was getting back €428 Amazon was offering it for €441. AIB charged me €451 after they added the exchange charge so I would go with Amazon from now on.

On amazon.co.uk, the currency displayed for me has always been in euro. But for some reason when I logged on today, they're only showing me the sterling price. Any idea why this is?! I've no idea if it's something to do with the website or something I might have done (I'm not one to fiddle with my computer or account settings though). Also I'm not talking about the currency converter at the checkout, just when I'm browsing. It's really annoying that I can't browse seeing the price in euro, so would really appreciate some help.

I'm not sure why it's always been in euro for me so

I thought maybe it's because I got a new debit card recently so changed that, but it hasn't helped. I've also ordered a kindle book, which normally delivers immediately (as in a couple of seconds!), but it's been a good 20 mins now and nothing  But the balance has been taken off my gift card. Wifi is working fine though, so that can't be the issue. Wonder if the website is just very busy at this time of year? Anyone else have problems this evening or is it just me?

Update: Managed to get the book to deliver with a little trouble shooting (menu -> sync & check for items), but I still think it's strange that it didn't deliver automatically like it normally does. I still don't get the whole currency thing though, so open to suggestions!

Maybe get on to Customer Service? It could very well be the site's busy, but best to check. I haven't had any problems so far, even when browsing for bargains Black Friday and Cyber Monday, so the problem might be the speed of your BB as well. Have you checked the speed of your connection?

Sorry, had just updated my post the same time you posted that :) Tried looking up how to contact customer service and got some help tips through there. Managed to get the book finally by going to menu and sync & check for items. It's just weird though, as I've never had trouble getting books onto my kindle before.

Still open to suggestions about the currency though... maybe I should've been seeing it in sterling all along though :P

I posted this in the BA Black Friday thread earlier, as an update on a prior post. A recent purchase I made would have been €32.56 if I allowed amazon convert it, I didn't as it's usually in my favour not to, this time around though - being charged in sterling and allowing the bank to convert it ended up at the exact same price of €32.56

You have to turn on Amazon currency converter in your account, its under Payment and GC.

Yes, I know. I prefer to see the prices in sterling, so it's not a showstopper to me.
