    Hi Everyone,

I just noticed that I got flashed by an overhead traffic camera leaving the Park Retail PArk today at carrickmine. It was one of those overhead ones, the flash was like a small LED. I may have been going a little over the 30kph but I was under the impression that you cannot get speeding fines on private property by the Guards.

Can anyone shed some light on this.

    Thanks

I think the camera is used for the purpose of seeing how long cars are on the premises for, as there's a max parking limit of around 3 hours. It's definitely nothing to do with the guards anyways

yep - its for traffic surveys and security. Probably an ANPR camera. (aut numkber plate recognition)

Now used in a lot of business & retail parks and also carparks like airport.
As well as the usual info on traffic movements it can also help in planning decisions.

As for the speeding on private property - it is still a public place and if someone was doing anything stupid, they can still be charged under various traffic laws - usually driving without care or similar.

From what I can find there's no possibility of a speeding offence since legal speed limits can only be set for public roads (not the same as public places). http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/2004/en/act/pub/0044/print.html#part2. They're probably cameras for parking/traffic counting and control.

However if your driving is bad enough then you could be charged with careless or dangerous driving but the bar is higher than simply driving faster than an arbitrary limit.
