Primera 2002 Locking issue

Picked up a cheap Primera but only noticed today that the button on the fob to lock the car doesn't work :/

There's no where for the key on the drivers side so I can't lock it there and when I lock it from the passenger side, only the passenger door locks.

The central locking works internally via the console button but I can't lock the car from outside :D

Where the insert for the key should be on the drivers handle, its covered with what looks like a cap. If I remove this is there a place for the key or can it be removed? I don't want to damage it.

How else do I lock the bloody thing with no fob!

PS. The open button works on the fob.

If open works from the fob then I would say the microswitch is gone in the close button, which is fixable.
Doesn't really help you immediately, hopefully someone will know if there is a fallback on the drivers door. Tbh any time I hear of this it is passenger door is mentioned as the alternative lock/unlock.

Yeah I would have thought the passenger side would work but I've tried every combination I can think of and nothing works :/

There was a thread here before but no answers were given. Surely there has to be a way of manually locking the car!?

It's the button on the fob that's gone, the rubber is ripped from it so there's nothing to press to lock. The open button is still there and works fine

You could close the door, then press unlock, then it should lock after 30 seconds.

That problem is quite common on nissans. There's a metal clip with the button on it on the circuit board that detaches. Sometimes you can DIY fix it, or the likes of autokey can fix it

Any of the key repair places should be able to solder the switech back on in a couple of mins, if it is still floating around inside.

I'd expect them to have microswitches to put in on place otherwise but if they don't then the simplest option is probably to buy a 2nd hand key off eBay and have them taken off that and soldered on to yours.

You can buy new cases for the keys for a few quid on ebay too.

The lock is under a cover right beside the handle of the passenger door. The is a hole underneath that you use your key to lever the cover off with. To lock the car, you have to open the passenger door, look all doors with the switch and then lock the passenger door. You can get the key recoded for around €80. Which you eventually will do but the other way will keep you going for now.

This is all from experience :)

I tried to take the cover off but it wasn't budging so I left it, I'll give it another go today.

As for locking with the central locking. The internal button won't work if any door is open, it just gives a warning beep. If I close all doors and press the button, they all lock but then all open if any door is opened from the inside, so that won't work :(

I'll try Colms way above and taking the cover off the door handle. Will hopefully get to a key repair during the week

    Thanks everyone!

You can get a cdl remote kit with 2 fobs online and link in to locking system probably cheaper than a new key.

I got them to lock after looking around online. There's a little hole on the door where you can see the locking system, if you turn it away from the car it must turn the mechanism and when you close the door it stays locked. Obviously this isn't good in the long term as it'd take forever doing all 4 each time but atleast it's locked for now!!

Will look into the fobs. Are they easily programmed?

Pressing the open button on the fob and waiting 30 seconds didn't work

Remote kits are available on ebay for about 25 to 30 sterling. If cdl is working from switch In car this can be wired quite easily positive ,earth, and pulse open pulse close.

The lad I bought it from thinks he has a spare, waiting to hear back :)

    Cheers

Can any fob be programmed to it or does it need to be the Nissan one?

You have to wire it into system. if go that way I will show you how to do it. I have the diagrams.
