02 Skoda Octavia Door and Window Electrics

    I have 02 Skoda Octavia. . .

Last March, the electric window drive cable inside the drivers door for the snapped. Basically the Window fell down into door and I had to head for my mechanic.

He said that it would be ready in a couple of hours and was a "straight forward job".

Then he rang me later to say that a Connector onto the Electric Window Motor ( which they had to disconnect to do the job ) effectively disintegrated when they went to work on it. I would need a new Driver's door loom. He said that he could pick this up second hand to save me a few quid.

He rang me later again to say that it looks like there was an issue with the Second hand loom and that the window would operate from the key outside door ( convenience facility? ) but that any of the switches on the inside of the door were not working - even for the other windows. The drivers door locks from the inside but there is no control over the locks on the other doors either. He told me that it could be the loom or the switches but that he would procure both second hand and ask me to call to him another day.

He told me that the door was basically operating "stand alone" mode and not communicating with the other doors.

He told me that I would have to bring the car to him and hid "Electric Window Man" would be there an be able to do it while I waited.

On the day I attended with the car again I was absolutely disgusted at the way the "Electric Window Man" was trying to fix my car. His only diagnostic capability was to keep swapping out parts. He got really annoyed and told me, at the end, that he wished he never saw my car! Didn't really give me a lot of confidence.

I decided to bring it to those that had the proper tools - Pilsen Skoda Distributors in Ballymount. They told me that they could only diagnose on a "Per Hour Basis" etc. It could meant that there could be somebody looking at my car for 10 Hours without a result!

I paid them for two hours to attach to the Computer Diagnostic Kit and to provide me with any errors encountered. They gave me a Report that told me that there were errors with a LAN in the car - apparently that is some kind of Network within the Car. When I asked the mecahnic directly did he think that he would have it sorted in 4-6 Hours - he said that he had no idea and it could only be on a "Per Hour" Basis.

I took the car and for a car that's oterwise perfect - it has destroyed the car in me. I cna only Unlock the two back doors, passenger door and boot by unlocking the Passenger Door from outside! Everyone within the car can Unlock their Own Individual Doors and Operate their own Window from their own door. The driver cannot operate ANYTHING from inside the drivers door except Lock / Unlock via the Button.

Somebody told me that it might be the ECU but that it's not the main ECU - it's the body ECU under Passenger Seat.

Somebody else told me that I need an Automobile Electrician . . .

Any Advice? Thanks a Million in Advance . . .

    Kind Regards

    Gordon

    Two things Gordon.
1 Did you try these lads? http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=93237953
2 Is the carpet on the left side of the car wet?

I would get an auto electrician to look at it. My mechanic uses a guy and I used his services once. I can PM you if you like he is mobile and used by VW also.

    Hi "ToyotaAvensis" . .

Thanks a Mill for coming back to me . . .

    I haven't asked those guys yet . . .

The carpet was wet on the passenger side some time back

    What does this mean?

    Hi "Majj"

Wow that would be great . . . I was told that an AutoElectrician might be the way to go . . .

Can you PM me that info, please? Where are they based?

Its likely thats the water has ****ed up the electrics. This is something you will need a good garage or auto electrician for. This is not a diy fix. It will cost a few hundred to put right methinks.

    I would actually pay a few hundred . . .It's a great car . .

But it was working perfectly until the guy discovered the corrosion on the "window motor / door control unit" when trying to change the Drivers Electric Window Cable

I gather that this is a known problem with Skoda - water ingress into the window motor / door control unit. What happens is that the pins corrode and eventually break on the door control unit

Given that it's an 02 - is it "Uneconomical To Repair"
