Seeking business partner with a keen interest in classic cars

    Good day,

I am a web designer/developer and recently started a new website with a partner who has unfortunately dropped out due to personal reasons. I would ideally like to continue the project, but my knowledge of the classic car industry is very limited so I'm looking to find a suitable partner with decent knowledge of classic cars, so I can concentrate on marketing the website and the running of it.

As the site is new there is no revenue coming in, nor can I offer payment until the site is monetized. There are a number of revenue streams which I am planning for once the site has traffic. The partnership will be 50/50, so revenue split accordingly.

Suitable partner will have the task of adding content, blog posts and short reviews of cars. Long term, the site will mostly rely on visitor generated content so work involved will be quite minimal.

Ideally, this will suit somebody who is passionate about classic cars, has some time to spare and is looking for a nice long term project.

If anybody is interested I will give more details via pm.

Surely writing content is the hard part, no?

I think you answered that yourself with such a short and vague comment.

OK, I guess my point is that I do have some experience in this area and I know that content is everything and you'll have zero traffic without it. So what exactly are you offering on your side?

BTW, I don't think you can use the PM system until you have a higher post count.

Good luck with it though, sounds interesting.

Cheers, I couldn't see anything in the Newbies & FAQ forum about PMs for new members.

I actually stated - albeit without going into too much detail - what my role will be:

"I'm looking to find a suitable partner with decent knowledge of classic cars, so I can concentrate on marketing the website and the running of it."

Firstly - good luck and more power to you...

But KL is exactly correct....in fact I'd say the website infrastructure is basically a commodity now.

Its all about the content publishers and the content consumers.

In Ireland, if you cover Ford, Rover and MG - you cover about 90% of what comes to shows around Ireland. Putting a ford escort on the front cover sells magazines ---- put a Fiat, renault, Alfa, BMW, Audi will be ignored....

I would think there is a market for a Ace Cafe type venue --- i.e. a bricks and mortar place for meets, events that maybe sells food without ripping people off

I have about 10 old cars but am pretty bored with the scene in Ireland....one more rain soaked bog of field and I'm ready to vomit ;)

Maybe just me, but I'd ignore a car magazine with a Ford Escort on the cover, however, one with a 30's Alfa 8C, BMW 328 , Fiat 131 sideways through a forest, or Quattro flying over a spectator strewn hill, would certainly catch my attention.

Think we have enough of fords just take a look at the interest people have in the "lesser " makes at shows nowadays they are sick of all the fords

I feel that the classic car scene in Ireland needs to look beyond the muddy field event. The local club scene can be often very hit and miss. I have no experience of the Cand C meets that I ve heard about from time to time. The Ace Cafe thing has always appealed to me. Would an Ace Cafe type culture catch on amongst classic car owners and other motor heads in Ireland ? Would it be sufficiently supported to operate as a viable business enterprise ?

I tried organising a meet up a few times and despite promises, only a handful turned up. I think a monthly meet at a venue would be a good idea, like the Ace Cafe. I've been to it a couple of times and it was very good with genuine people there for the most part with some very interesting cars! I think the big problem in Ireland is lack of interesting cars, some people see a mark two Escort and loose their minds!!! Personally, I gave up going to Irish car shows years ago and most of the time there were a joke! The last good car event I was at was the classic car auction in Kilkenny in the early 90's.

I looked into Ace cafe type place here found ideal premises etc. Then restrictions in the lease prevented it happpening. It has been on my mind again of recent.

The old Esmond Motors site in Stillorgan, or indeed the Blakes site beside it, would make for a great Ace Cafe style operation. Something for a lottery winner to consider?

I think Eddie Rockets had the best opportunity to draw a regular car crowd to their restaurants that have good parking, but they seem to have completely missed it. Some automobilia, midweek deals, and targeted marketing and they could have had something... I really don't think a full time Ace Cafe type business would work here.

The problem with the scene here is there are not enough true enthusiasts out there, and much less population than in England.
Indeed the muddy field event is a waste of time.
The C&C events I have been to on the other hand are much more enthusiast friendly, because usually if you are going to go to one, you will be a car nut, and there won't be a load of kids/bored wives/morons sitting on your car there.

Problem is there just isnt enough of the nuts out there

It's the same issue as with so many things in this country: a small, very dispersed population means that opportunities are very limited

i've only ever had one decent punt and that was against a '69 911. mgb's, jags, mercs, my god, you people are soft...

sports classics, like cougars, have to be ridden hard occasionally.. + getting stopped by the cops in a classic gives them something to talk about. ;)
