Which team will sign Ray Rice?

Now that he's been reinstated (more's the pity) do you think he should play in the NFL again, and if so for whom?

Personally, I reckon the Raiders might take a shot. They have a history of taking lame duck bad boys.

I think you'd have to be looking at a team who is in/has a shot at the playoffs. It will surely just be a short term deal for a number of reasons, and the negativity and bad publicity for someone like the Raiders at 1-10 just isn't worth it.

The Colts would make the most sense. Pagano was at the Ravens when they drafted Rice, they are very short at the position and he'd be a good fit in their scheme.

Colts would make sense, I agree, but they are a very family-orientated club, and I don't think Irsay would tolerate the publicity the signing would bring. Therefore, I can't see him going there...

Jim Irsay doesn't want bad publicity for the Colts!

    Lol

I'm with Paully that really only a short term injury deal for a playoff team would be his best (only) chance to get back in. I think the Lions could be interested if Bush/Bell struggle with injuries.

His DUI and drug possession charge earlier this year maybe?

If we hadn't picked up Blount I wouldn't say no, but doubt he will have too many problems finding a team anyway.

Colts, Chargers, Lions, Falcons, Saints and Cardinals all could do with a good addition at RB. I'm sure one of them will sign him.

Question is whether he is willing to pay for the smaller money that he will be offered.

Hopefully no team will sign him. ****ing **** of a human being IMO. Don't hit a woman ever.

While I'm in agreement with you, I think when the likes of Michael Vick for instance are able to play then he should have an opportunity.

Yes. But it's always a case of 'Do as I say, not as I do', is it not? Look at Michael Vick for example as already pointed out in this thread.

It's a real shame, but he will probably catch on with another team soon.

People go on about gender equality and then make a much bigger deal about women being hit than men being hit. The vast majority of people wouldn't be making half as big a fuss if it was a man he knocked out, even if he had been no bigger or no more able to defend himself than the woman he hit. The issue is domestic violence (which is a bigger deal than knocking some randomer out), and I don't see how kicking him out of the league is going to solve the problem in their relationship. For me there should have been a 4 game ban but the focus from the league should be taking steps to ensure the violence ends in the relationship. As for a team signing him I don't see why he's not really that good. We've seen countless RBs lose their ability and it looks like he's joined the club.

He has made his money and if he's smart he's set for life

He completed two years of his 5 year deal. The Ravens front loaded it which is the smart thing to do with backs and indeed other positions

For 2012 & 2013 he earned 25 million. 2014, 2015 & 2016 he was set to earn 15 million but never will now.

He'll have no option to but to take a small deal now, maybe he can turn it into something more

A hall of fame back would have struggled behind the 2013 Ravens offensive line

Was horrendous, possibly the worst in the league

I guess because there is an obvious physical power/strength difference between most men - particularly NFL RBs - and women.

If he was filmed punching some stranger, a male and dragging him around, he might also find it much harder to get the victim to be so helpful in trying to keep him out of jail afterwards.

It is was it is, domestic violence. It isn't excused by saying "people don't/wouldn't give out about some other issue as much".

His average of 3 ypc last year is going to hurt him more than his domestic violence charge!

That's the way it is with the Colts anyway! 4 players have been cut in the last year for their off the field activities!

He has no shot. The video killed him off.

It's somewhat hard to reconcile Suggs, Harrison, Marshall et al being lauded heroes every week when it's likely they've been every bit as guilty. But that's just the way it is.

I agree, don't know how any self respecting man could share a locker room with that chicken shít bitch.

It's probably relatively easy to share a locker room with someone like that considering the extent to which domestic abuse is widespread within the NFL.
Rice will get a shot somewhere because someone will believe that he gives them a better chance to win than their current options. Who that'll be will depend on circumstances as has already been mentioned. I'd imagine that it'll be a team in the playoff race but only as a wildcard

    this.

if ray rice had a 1500 yard season last year he would have been signed within 6-12 hours of being reinstated or possibly would never have been cut by the ravens day 1.

hard to say that when we welcomed vick with open arms ourselves. the ravens themselves and the entire nfl swept the ray lewis incident under the rug once because he had years of being a superstar ahead. even donte stallworth and he was a good player but in no way a superstar.

talent overcomes all in the nfl if he joins a team and plays well in a years time he will be "reformed" and "a credit to the nfl and his community"

For sure. They'll have him do stuff where he says how much he regrets what he did and how wrong it is and how much it hurts other people. He'll become a face for some campaign against domestic violence and he'll have a chartity that gives money to people who have suffered greatly because of it.

The vick situation was a bit different as he actually served prison time which acted as both punishment and enough time for the initial furore to die down, whereas Rice was dealt with very leniently by the penal system. And it's still quite recent so still fresh in the public's mind.

Players never really have scruples about who they are playing with as long as it help them win.

Will be interesting to hear the fan reaction.
Some fans of the team he goes to will no doubt make excuses for him, "he may be a woman beater, but he's our woman beater"

It was done as purely a PR move. The NFL don't give a **** about domestic violence.

I understand what you're saying nerd and I still think what vick did was reprehensible IMO to me as a dog owner. I just can't imagine how you could do it

That being said hitting a woman is something I was told growning up was a big no no and the lowest of the low. you just don't.

He has already came out with the "I have learned from my mistake & am looking for a 2nd chance" line. Today it is that "I made a horrible mistake not public ally apologising to my wife"

I await the RADV campaign set up to help sufferers if domestic violence.
