I'd go with the big cat species, the Siberian Tiger is a beautiful looking beast, they reach their peak between 10-15 years. (live between 20 and 30) There's an innate 'no nonsense' intelligence in a cat.

There's also something very noble about the Elephant, dignified looking beasts of high intelligence, also interesting to note that they operate in matriarchal family structures. ;):p

Finally the Orca or Killer Whale which is considered the closest to humans in intelligence, over the lower primates. You may have heard of the animal activist lawyers out there trying to bring in 'non human person' rights for the poor lads living in tanks.

    Elephant.
They "grieve" and show respect for their dead(in their own way obv, I'm not talking sangwitches in O'Beirnes with porter).
Incredible animals that I could go on about but then I would be a pachyderm-ophile :p

Polar Bears also, the only recognised mammal 'man eater'

Also can be manipulated by man and taught to be cute play fellows. :pac:

The Skunk. One fart and you have to run far away. What a weapon, although a mammal, my favourite.

Skunks are notorious for their anal scent glands, which they can use as a defensive weapon.

If only humans had this effective weapon to get rid of annoying folk it would be great.

Normally I'd say dogs, horses and elephants but I watched an episode of a show on animal planet about Dublin zoo recently and it showed two new animals, which are apparently very rare to have in zoos and I honestly don't think I'd ever even heard of one before, called 'okapis'.

Can anyone who's been to Dublin zoo recently confirm if these are still there? They're honestly such unique looking animals

The Zorse cross breeding with the horse and zebra. You see this in big cats also with the Liger. The mongrel cat. It's not desirable for any Zoo breeders, people want to see the real deal not a mixed breed that looks like something out of a NAZI scientific research camp in Romania.

Are you saying that the Okapi is some sort of hybrid? It's not clear from your post.
The beautiful Okapi is a species in its own right, a member of the giraffe family. It is related to neither horses nor zebras :)
Favourite animal? Hmmm... Gotta love the big whales, they'd take your breath away, but don't know if I can choose one animal out of them all!

Was up there about two weeks ago. yep they have two okapis in separate enclosures. Fine looking animals. bigger than I thought.
The three baby elephants stole my heart though.

I'm fond of the Jaguar and the Siberian Tiger. The Jaguar is pound for pound the strongest big cat.

Giraffe and penguins are pretty high on the list :)

Orcas are beautiful too but I prefer land animals :)

I watched a thing on weird animals a while back and thought the mudskipper was pretty cool.

But in terms of classics, I'd pick mice and rats. They're just adorable and so entertaining. And so smart.

    Orca's >>>>> great whites.

Great whites are actually massive pussies. The orca just turns the shark onto its back which puts the shark into a trance. Then the orca just chows down.

    32ft killing machine >>>>> 20ft killing machine.

Killer whales & elephants are the greatest animals. So intelligent, & so family oriented.

Pigs are quite intelligent, pretty cool animals. When studying the cognitive abilities of pigs one professor once taught pigs to play video games!

    Plus they taste great.

My favourites would be chickens, following by pigs. Cooked.

Another vote for Elephants, they're Elephantastic. The humble moggie fascinates me, how they can instantaneously switch from loveable furby to ruthless killer is remarkable to witness.

    Otters are cool too.

    Black panther and grey wolf.

Yes, they are beautiful animals. So graceful. I personally love domestic cats. They are affectionate but give you space. They are sleek, elegant and have a bit of swagger. Can be demanding though!

Its hard to pick a favourite, I think owls are beautiful. Also have to agree with the previous posts about the opaki, saw them recently in Dublin zoo and they are amazing. Always been a fan of snow leopards too, and grey wolves, and polar bears.. We're we supposed to stick with one? Oops haha
