just started an e&I app myself. I'm late to it at 28, but iv spent the last 3 years studying applied physics and instrumentation by night. from what I know, e&I is far better to do. when I decided to go for an apprenticeship I was warned not to take an electrical but to do e&I instead. I'm in college with a lot of guys who are qualified electricians looking to get in to instrumentation. it's a far more specialized and sought after trade with a lot more opportunities and earning potential from what I am told. As I say I am only new to this and just about 2 months in to my own apprenticeship so I am just relaying what I have been told by guys with much more experience than myself. also saying that it took me over a year to get an apprenticeship, there is not a lot of positions advertised and I am in cork which has a huge pharma sector, and only found out about the job I have now through my night classes. other people on here should be able to give you more info, as regards what you can do with an electrical trade, best of luck with whatever you decide to do buddy
