hi, just wondering how people get on with figuring out potential salary before putting time and energy into applying for a new role.
most companies don't publish anything and the likes of glassdoor seem, to me, very US based or the ranges are silly ($50k-$150k kind of thing)

just wondering if anyone has any tips I'm missing.

Ask around if you know anybody working in similar role or in that industry. Someone from that industry usually knows the going rates for most positions. Online research - some companies/jobs do publish the going salary for similar/same posts. Sometimes there is published research for a particular industry or general research such as e.g. likes of Morgan McKinley publish annual salary surveys.

What's your role, how long are you in it and what are your qualifications. Where are you based (roughly) and are you private or public.

Give that info and you should get a ballpark salary from someone close to that industry.

It's annoyingly commonplace to omit that info on job applications. And then you risk losing out by asking them about it. But what should people do, wait until you've done assessments and two interviews?

A recruiter will usually tell you if you're in touch with them.
