Eircom will cap you at 7mb

Sky (BT Ireland) won't be able to do anything about it.

    sky broadband uses eircom lines

should offer slightly faster service how long is sky contract

    voderphone also sells eircom lines

    how much is upc

    Thanks will check it out
My point is eircom want another €10 just to upgrade me to 7/8MB, if I was a new customers I would get my current package + the extra MB for €38 for 6mths and 48 thereafter. I am paying 48 now but they want 10 quid a month to upgrade me

If I switch provider I get it even cheaper, but just concerns about some customer feedback re sky, VF etc

I've had to get on to sky customer service a few times due to the eircom line having a fault on the way in to the house, they had a little checklist and sent out an engineer pretty fast, and made no noise about refunding me for not having broadband.
They have a 1 year contract, when I was shopping around they were the cheapest bar vodafone, who had a 30 month contract I think, and I believe they have a 300GB cap now.
Sky are unlimited, last month I've had to have used at least 500GB
Been with them only 2 months mind, they don't do fibre, but I'm in an awkward spot in Cobh that isn't enabled, says eircom, so not a big deal for me, or presumably you if you're looking at 8MB.

No provider is faultless and some people will experience problems no matter who they are with while the majority of people will never have an issue. You only ever see the bad things being posted which probably only accounts for maybe 10% of broadband customers....thats just my estimation.

I moved to Sky nearly 2 years ago having been with Vodafone for about 3 years prior to that and I have to say that I am more than happy with what I get for the money. The max. speed VF could give me (its an Eircom line shared by all providers) was 7mb yet when I moved to Sky I have consistently got speeds of around 12.0 - 12.5mb + unlimited BB & calls and all that for a little over half the price that VF were charging.

    Thanks guys, I stayed with eircom as they upped my speed to the max of 7MB and also give me a a discount for 6months;
    Thanks all

Sky suffer from contention and have a terrible service, expect .1 to .2mb speed in the evenings from 4.30pm to after midnight, similar story all day over the weekend. I was with Sky when the launched in early 2013 but moved to Vodafone last January after Sky released me from contract early. I now have 13.5mb consistent 24/7 365 with no contention. Sky aren't worth a fiddlers for Broadband.

I live in Carlow too, what part are you in?

Often local wireless providers have better deals than the likes of Eircom in the sticks.

Sales guy calls me about SKY Broadband, everything sounds good so I go for it.. What he forgot to mention was that the technician guy apparently comes to your door a week and half after your order and it takes 3 - 4 weeks for your broadband to be activated!!

3 weeks after my order and after numerous and different excuses from the Sky agents I still don't have internet and they said that I'll have to pay €30 for the first month (!!!) in a couple of days as planned, as they can't stop the direct debit! I have never dealt with such crooks before in my entire life! I can't cancel my order before the service gets activated and now I'm called to pay for something I never got!

Disgraceful service from sky. At least UPC sends you the modem with DPD - next day delivery and your internet gets activated once you plug it in! Take note sky cause that's how it's done. Sky agent says I can't go with another provider as my line is currently used by Sky and that I'll have to cancel my account first. But I can't cancel my account until it gets activated! And they said that's going to happen in two weeks time almost 4 weeks after my initial order!!

    S T A Y A W A Y F R O M SKY!

But you can really assist me. You can't cancel my account before it gets activated, I can't get another provider and I'll have to wait until Feb 5 for my biggest mistake in my entire life, answering your sales agent's call on Jan 14!!

When an offer of help is given you should really accept rather than trying to avoid any possible solution.

Posting here and giving out about an issue isnt going to get it sorted.

I'm switching to Vodafone because they don't make you buy a landline.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,456 ✭✭✭FSL

If its adsl/vdsl you have to have a landline you don't necessarily have to have a telephone connection.

I'm trying to warn everyone out there of what's really going on with the SKY deal. Everyone should know what the sales agents are not telling us. That it takes a month to get the broadband after the day of your order.

Now if you want to be accommodating to them and play nice because they are paying you €625 per month to be able to have a presence on this site, it's a different subject altogether.

If Sky Daniel really wants to assist me by letting me cancel my account today or by activating my broadband today, I'm all ears.

I'll be definitely looking at all the other offers once my line is free again.. UPC seems to have the best deals at the moment according to uswitch.ie

What are you talking about? That makes no sense whatsoever

Never, ever agree to buy anything from any door to door sales men. They normally don't actually work for the company, instead they work for a third party contract sales company and they are on commission.

They lie through their teeth and would sell you their granny to make a sale!

Always do the research yourself online, here on boards, etc.

As you say Martha_Mae, UPC at the moment easily have the best value for money and fastest broadband products.

He offered help, you don't that he can't do exactly what your looking for so there's no need to attack. Either way he gave you a way to talk to them directly and possibly get an actual solution rather than just giving out.

Desperately slow connection in Newbridge since yesterday evening. Sky blaming "a problem at the local exchange".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3 yawdamper

    yep same problem in Ennis.
Once SKY get you to agree to sign up they dont give a dam waiting 22 working days now for service rep to "plug in a wireless modem"

A few years ago I worked for one of this companies for a few days. Absolute horrible job and it was 100% commission, there was something like 21% held back for 6 months in case anyone cancelled. Needless to say it wasn't for me, I'm not a good liar.
