Saorview 0% Signal Issue

    Hi there,

I hope someone can help me, I'm having trouble setting up a new (unapproved) Saorview box.

I bought the Thomson THT503 in DID on Monday, as a replacement for a NordMende box. I brought it home, plugged it the aerial etc but its not picking up any signal at all & stays at 0%. This is using the exact same set up as the NordMende box which worked without any problems. I tested with another box & aerial in another room and got the same results, 0% signal.

The box is obviously meant for the UK as it came with a two pin plug + adaptor. On the initial set up screen it asks you to select your country but Ireland isn't an option (UK, Spain, France, Germany, Croatia and a few others are listed). Would you think that this is the problem or am I missing something?

    Thanks

    Take it back.

    1. 2 pin plugs are illegal here. (and in the UK so it is not of UK origin).

    2. It is not Saorview approved and does not work here.

    3. It is getting no signal which would suggest that it is not MPEG4.

Get your money back and get a Saorview approved box.

There is a way around this. They throw one of these in the box

That does not make it Saorview Approved, nor does it make it work.

It is MPEG 4 so it should work, but why bother when they should have a unit that works.

    Thanks for the replies!

The box says its DVB-T with MPEG2 and MPEG4 ALS supported, is that the same as MPEG4?

What kind of aerial(s) are you using?

What is the other 'box & aerial in another room' that also delivered 0% signal?

DID wouldn't be selling it if it was useless for Saorview.

I'm using a OneForAll Amplified Indoor Aerial.

This is the only box I'm having an issue with , what I meant was when I plugged in the Thomson box to the aerial in the other room it still didn't pick up any signal even though the other box is working perfectly there. Both boxe use identical aerials.

Does the aerial have its own power supply plugged in?

Yes it has it's own power supply & it is plugged in

The box may simply be faulty, can you test it at a friend's house or return it to DID and test it on their system.

I just got it working! There was an option in the settings to search for 'all' or 'free' channels, I changed this to all and have all the saorview tv and radio channels now. Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated!

But it is still NOT approved and won't get the MHEG text and updates. So why not return it and get an approved box?

I was looking at a cousin's Philips TV the other day. It is a 2010 one that should receive Saorview but is not an approved set. I had great difficulty getting anything out of it because it listed all the fake channels that litter the Saorview signal. There were what seemed 100s of these blank channels with the few (8) real channels buried among them. In the end, I had to use a STB (also unapproved) because I just did not have the patience to sort it out.

What are they playing at? There is some reason for this FFFFFing nonsense that is going on. I suspect that they are deliberately trying to stop non-approved kit from working. But why?

About 20 'fakes' on each mux. Took me less than a minute to get them off my particular unapproved receiver. (Just repeating a 2-button combination as I scroll up the list.)

Likewise on my non approved Sony --- just shifted RTE 1 HD to 801 with the rest 802 etc then the radio ones and left the blanks where they were as I check them now and then for "surprises".!
It only takes a few button pushes on the remote.....
    Regards

    But what are they for?

The Philips was a PIA because it was so slowwww. Also, I was unsure of the aerial and the general installation. I will go back and redo the job again, but the guy had been without RTE for a few weeks because of it. Why are the FFFFFing with the signal?

I have Freeview reception too, so quite a long channel list & I like to flick backwards through it too, so can't just leave the junk at the bottom.

My brother has a Philips non-approved TV also (approx. 2010) and has the same problem with the hidden channels.

The 2 hidden HD testcard channels have locked into LCNs 4 & 5 if I remember correctly, they are skipped as you scroll up the channel list i.e. 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 etc., but cannot be moved or replaced by an actual channel. I always found the Philips TV the most user unfriendly of the non-Saorview receivers I've come across.
