Can anyone here point me in the direction of where to get deer antlers? Pet shop sells them but they seem incredibly over priced. I used to collect shed ones in the phoenix park but no longer live in Dublin. Cheers in advance!

Don't have any know, but will keep an eye out for you.

Keep in mind that the bucks will soon be shedding their antlers. The process can occur anywhere from Jan to Mar. I find a lot in February.

If you can find a safe forestry to walk through, or wait until the season is over, you should be able to find a few. Follow their paths, find their beds, and you should get some.

Thanks for the info! I used to find them in the Phoenix Park when I was in Dublin. I'm not sure if there is anywhere in Louth where I'll have the same luck! I'll ask people locally.

If you can find an area where deer hunters are, have a look around. Do not go in to the foresty, but work the area where cars would be parked.

Discarding heads is not uncommon. I often find skulls with smaller antlers close to the road, but a Coilte let.

Again, I would not go deep in to the forestry yet: (1) it is hunting season and (2) they are not dropping their antlers yet.

Do you do any hill walking or open spaces? If you are an early bird, keep a watch out for crows and the like. They will often find a wounded, dead, or dying deer for you. If you see crow activity, check it out.

Lastly, what about other bones? You're sure to come across a lot of bones out there. I bet if you took the dogs out, they'd find them first.

They used to find all sorts in the Phoenix park. I liked the antlers because they weren't too messy and the dogs are mainly indoor dogs. I'll have to find some good places in Louth to go trekking. I've only just recently moved here so am unsure about what's near here. I'm not a hunter so I won't be going near anywhere that's open for shooting. I haven't a clue about hunting seasons haha.

Haha it's only fair :-) I can't post any examples because I'm a new user. Hopefully I can message people if they're interested.
