I'm looking to get a new laptop after Christmas. My current laptop is 5 years old and extremely slow. I don't need it for anything too fancy, I would mainly use it for college work and internet browsing, as well as the likes of Netflix and Spotify (which my current laptop finds hard to handle). I wouldn't need a huge amount of memory, but I'd like if it had a semi-decent battery life. My current one only ever lasted two hours at best and at the moment it needs to constantly be plugged in which makes portability difficult. What kind of specs would I be looking for in a new laptop? Also, where would be the best place to buy it? Since I'll be getting it after Christmas I'd be hoping to maybe get a good deal in the sales. I don't mind buying online either. I'm not too sure of my budget yet but it would probably be about €400.

I'm in the same boat here with between €350 - €500 to spend on a laptop suitable for photo editing. Neither of the above links work. Any handy suggestions?

I think this is the Dell Inspiron referenced two posts up. Seems like a good deal for the price.

Thanks for the replies above. I do need to wait until after Christmas so couldn't avail of the offers but I'll keep those models in mind!

I've been doing a bit of looking myself, could anyone tell me if this Acer laptop seems good? The specs seem like they'd be perfect for my needs, but I'm wondering if Acer laptops are generally any good.

The dell previously posted is nearly identical, bar the smaller hard drive.
For €70 less, the dell is better value
