Volvo V40 D2

    Just looking for some advice on the above car. Looking to get a nicely specced hatchback. We have looked at golfs, focus, audi a3 and the DS3 and even the new Kia Ceed but just think the V40 is a fantastic looking car...really ticks all the boxes.

    My main queries are...

    The D2 engine is the newer PSA 1.6 engine with the six speed gearbox..by all accounts it seems to be better than the troublesome older version so am I safe in going down this route. Going with diesel as mileage and style of driving will suit. Very few petrol around and the excellent new Volvo D4 engine appears a bit out of range at the moment. A few in the UK but not seeing the value there anymore...mostly same specs as here and D2s also. Not sure if the remaining Volvo warranty would apply here?

    New or Second Hand: Volvo seem to be discounting the SE spec model which come with leather and a few other bits. Its even cheaper than the base spec model! Was originally thinking second hand but now thinking of buying our first ever new car..Once I specced up one or two things the garages offered me about €1k off straight away without even trying to bargain. I am thinking of trying to get one or two more extras in and try and haggle on them. Have looked at a few second hand ones and they are still fetching decent money...none in the spec that have appealed to me yet anyway. Garages are of course offering PCP at 6.9% but pricing up a bank loan at a higher rate and the same figures actually works out cheaper (obviously bigger monthly payment but would likely hold onto the car after 3 years anyway). Possibly another bargaining tool to use.

    Anyway what do ye think about this car...for the spec you get I think it is hard to beat versus golfs, a3s etc. In fact I find all the current German hatchbacks ugly (1 series :rolleyes:) or boring! The missus will be driving it mostly and this is the biggest I can persuade her to go!
