Digital Media/Media Studies

I was looking at Maynooth and thinking of going there in September. I'm really interested in video/audio production, camerawork etc. Is digital Media like this or is more computer science? I know the media studies is video production and that but I highly doubt I'll get 460 points.
Any info on either course would be great thanks.
And also what is accommodation in Maynooth like? Any recommendations where to stay in 1st year?
    Thanks.

Digital Media wouldn't be for you. Digital do some video editing in first year but that's about it, apart from that it's all media theory/programming/web design/animation/photoshop/illustrator and some other computer science like computer networks and computer graphics.

Digital Media is just half computer science and half media studies.

I do Media Studies in Maynooth. If you want a course where you will be working with cameras, lighting, radio, sound recording equipment etc I wouldn't recommend this course. I've spoken to others on my course and we all tend to feel there is more theory than practical. Of course I don't know what other courses are like but I would do some serious research into all the other options.

Digital media does offer some practical work with video & sound editing early on. There's also societies like Media Soc and Broadcasting Soc that need people to lend a hand with filming and radio production throughout the year though, so you can still learn the ropes outside of your course.

If you wanted some more experience with the cameras after your undergrad, there's also an MA in Radio & TV production you can do regardless of what course you pick.

If Media Soc is anything like it was two years ago when I joined, you'll meet precisely once during the year and do sod all media-related activities bar a one-night crash-course on how to use Photoshop. To call it pathetic would be an understatement.

Yeah not much was done...the committee members have changed since then, I'm not sure what it's like these days, but hey the option is there and AFAIK nothing stopping members suggesting activities or applying to use the cameras.
