So i have a problem with my Audi, The E con button is constantly on. If i hold it in it goes off but as soon as i let it go it goes back on. Also the air is constantly cold/luke warm even when i turn them up fully is this due to the e con been on constantly or is there something wrong in the pipe or something? Thanks :)

As far as I'm aware, e-con means economy and the air con only comes on when you turn off e-con. If your air is not at correct temperature though and the button isn't working, it's probably related.

This is essentially a fault symptom AFAIK, as in a fault is detected in the aircon system (clutch, gas pressure, sensor etc)

Thanks for the replies! Do you know how much it might cost roughly? Going to go to the mechanic tomorrow and sort it out hopefully!

It depends on what's wrong. Not being funny, but it could be a €50 sensor or a €1500 compressor

    Check your serpentine belt (fanbelt)
Mine has a shorter belt that bypasses the compressor so aircon cannot be used.

And im keeping it that way!

In Irish conditions, the aircon is an absolute godsend as it demists a *lot* faster than just running hot air, as well as demisting without the stifling effect of the overly hot air. I run aircon all year round. Fantastic for preventing misted windows on damp days especially if I sit in with a damp jacket on. There's a clutch on the refrigerant pump so it's not taking power all of the time. If you've got the aircon on for a while, the interior air stabilises nicely and the pump only runs intermittently to top up the conditions. Similar to your fridge, it's not running all of the time.

As for the Econ light being on, that's most likely a sign that the refrigerant pressure is too low. You can get a regas kit in the likes of Halfords, or you can go to an aircon specialist to get the system purged and refilled.

If you have aircon and do not run it regularly you run the real risk of the gaskets drying out and losing the capacity to maintain refrigerant pressure as the refrigerant carries seal lubricants within it so it's always good to run it for a while once a week or once a fortnight. Not running for extended periods of time will cause the aircon to fail eventually. Cheaper to run it than repair it..

So i got the car back yesterday the mechanic said the thermostat was stuck so he replaced that and flushed all the pipes! Had warm air :D but on the way home i realised that the warm air only comes when the revs are up above 2000 when idle at 1000 revs its coldish air. I rang the lad he said its just the car flushing itself or something like that and it should be fine in a few days! Looked it up then lots of people had this problem and it couldn't be fixed.. Any thoughts anyone? Thanlks!

First off check your coolant level is correct as this would cause cold air at low revs. If thats ok then the next easiest option is there might be an air lock in the system, go back to the mechanic and ask him to try bleeding the coolant system.

I had an air lock after a thermostat change and once bled all was fine.

Do you even know what air con is?

Do you live in a house made out of turf?
