Knocking noise on full wheel turn

    Car:
    Passat B6 2.0TDI CR 170, 60K miles, late 2009, 1 year warranty still valid.
    Issue:
knocking noise heard when steering wheel is turned at full or almost full turn.
    Symptoms:
occurs if wheel is turned to either side. Issue is most noticeable at low speeds (e.g. if turning & pulling away at the top of a hill, issue seems to occur on the flat also). Unclear if the knocking noise is coming from the front or rear of the car (thought it was the front to start with, now not so sure).
I've heard the same noise on a very old K11 Micra (also most noticeable when turning at the top of the same hill) and I put it down to wear & tear/age.
    Info:
Car recently passed NCT, MOT & comprehensive AA vehicle inspection.
    Request:
What would be the most common/likely root cause of this type of noise/symptom?
What should I be asking an indy to look out for if inspecting it under a ramp?
    Thanks.

Anybody know on average how much I should expect to pay for a CV joint replacement at an indy?

The car was bought with a warranty which covers pretty much everything, do you reckon a CV joint should be covered (bought car 2nd hand from main dealer only 2 months or so ago) or would it be categorised as wear and tear (though not quite a consumable)?

Bearings and CV joint are perishables (like tyres, filters etc), but do take it back to seller and complain about the noise and let them diagnose it and offer a solution.
If they say it'll cost 200 to fix, take car to an indy (non-dealer mechanic) and get a quote there. Dealers are often more expensive than indys.

Thanks. The car was purchased from a UK dealer with a 1 year warranty that's valid for use in NI (not a problem for me to travel to NI to get any work done if needs be). A local indy quoted approx 70 to 80e per CV joint plus labour averaging about €200 total. I'll give the warranty provider a call tomorrow to see what's what. I've done relatively low mileage since it was purchased 2 months ago so I don't think I should be facing this bill to be fair. We'll see.
