What exactly is the difference between say a Samsung led or akai or finlux? I know Samsung would have more a chance to last longer but other than that is there any major pic quality difference giving there both full 1080p ready

Picture quality, colour depth and warmth, picture response times, also the acceptable dead pixel rate will be lower with higher end brands.

My dad and I both bought a tv at the same time. He went for the cheaper brand. Can't remember what. I went for Samsung. Apart from his tv looking like an awkward ugly box compared to mine. HIs picture and sound quality is much worse even though specs were the same. Even though the pixels might be the same the quality of the screen material differ.

Electronics at the mid to lower end of the market are really competitive. Keep an eye on prices of exactly what you want. When it goes on sale grab it. Eg do you want to be able to avail of as much free tv as possible and have the tv last as long as possible? Get a good quality picture with built in saorview tuner, usb, network capabilities and if possible a UK free to air tuner too. If you install free to air satellite you'll save more money from cancelling sky/upc than cutting on a cheap tv.

If I just want a decent 22" tv to watch netflix would i be better off buying a samsung led or a smart tv? Its hard to find a 22" smart tho, is it possible to stream netflix from my laptop to the tv?

Is there any other brand to look out for that match Samsung on its qualitys?
