    Hi all,

I have a week off work after Christmas and am looking to travel for it and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions?
Travel dates would be between maybe Dec 27ish to January 3rdish give or take a day or so.

    Requirements would be as follows:
-Not a sun holiday in Lanzarote, Majorca or the like
-Less than 2000 euro all in for flights and hotel (not really open to hostels unless they have nice single rooms- sorry have been burned sharing rooms with strangers)
-Safe place for single female (am well travelled)
    -Plenty to do

    Thanks!

Plenty of European cities with lots going on over the New Year, if that suits. There have been threads here before, but Berlin is good place to start, or if you don't want it too cold then Rome or Naples.

Youve 2 grand budget for 6 nights hotel and flights. The world is your oyster to be honest.
Accor hotels (novotel/ ibis/ mercure/ sofitel) are having a 40% off sale, and brekkie for free (which in nicer hotels can be up to 30euro per day extra) so if you do that in any major continental city then your hotels shouldnt come to more than 600euro at the very very most. Flights surely wouldnt be more than the 200 or shade above leaving you with well over a grand spending money. Do it right and you could have a central hotel incl brekkie and flights for <500euro.

I'm not sure about spending the whole 6 days in one place, so if you were ok to split the holiday, you could combine a few days in Berin+Hamburg or Berlin+(Dresden en route)+Prague or Prague+Vienna or Vienna+Budapest or Paris+Amsterdam, even Madrid+Barcelona, but honestly any of those cities or similar have plenty of cafes/ museums/ sights/ attractions, and coming to think of it I've spent a day or 2 in a good few of them on my own just generally milling about soaking in the sights and atmosphere.
Advantage of any of the above is that youve daily direct flights from Dublin if not multiple times a day.

Now, the one thing might be the weather which can get nippy in the winter (funny enough), so should that be a problem then somewhere like Malta will keep you busy for 6days no problem and its far enough south that it wont be freezing. Theres organised day tours that pick you up at the hotel, and deposit you back in the evening that would take up a day or 2 leaving you with a few days to just explore on your own. The only thing is that I'd make sure to stay somewhere central like St Julians or near Valetta for a bit of life in the evening as some of the resorts are WAY off the beaten track, so good if travelling as a couple or with a family but I'd be firece lonely to be stuck there on your own (I would reckon)
