Cables running through insulation?

    hello,

got a quote from an electrician to wire a house. The walls will have a 38mm insulated plasterboard finish. The electrician said he will not be chasing any walls but will run the conduits down the wall and I need to hack out the grove from my insulated slab when plaster-boarding.
This seams odd to me so I am just wondering what the norm is here?

    Thanks a lot

Yes it is odd,its a short cut,it saves the electrician chasing the walls. It doesnt make sense to be cutting the insulated slabs where the conduits are.its the same as having no insulation where the conduits are.
In my house 4 years old,all conduit and electrical boxes fully recessed into block wall.38mm insulated board anchored to wall.60mm screws used to fit electrical fitting to boxes recessed into walls. You will have to get the electrician to requote you or else get a different electrician

Its a regular thing I've seen a few sparkys recommend, although I completely disagree with it. Usually these slabs are put onto solid walls where condensation will build up exactly where the insulation is missing. So you will have cut a slot exactly where condensation will build up and run down to the perfect collection box full of wires just below.

    thanks for the replies,

if I slab first and then allow him to hack a line out of the surface to recess the conduit, would this be ok also? The conduit would be flush with the surface of the slab and would be skimmed over when skimming the slab.

ABSOLUTELY not.your plaster will crack every place you have couduit.I really cant see why your looking for shorts cuts. You should be doing it a previously mentioned
