    Hi all.
Got into my 05 1.6tcdi focus Friday eve, slight clicking noise when starting then ABS light came on as power steering light. Drove fine but the PS went, I was only a mile from home got it home no prob.
Tried to start it later but just clicked a few time.
Mechanic got it Sat, jumped it no prob, said prob battery, bought new one, serviced it, done break pads and dropped back, seemed fine.
Thought air blower/heater seemed under power when driving it but drove fine, got in last nice and PS light and Battery light on again!

Anyone any ideas what could be draining it? could it be damp somewhere in electrics? Car seems to have excessive damp/condensation inside the last few weeks....might it have got into relays under passenger glove box?

    Most likely the alternator.

He said he checked alternator and was fine but txt last night to say he will check tensioner today, not trying to Second guess him, is a good mate and sound so Just seeing if anyone thinks it could be something else.
There was a slight bit of a whine from a belt the odd time lately but nothing much, would the alternator have tested ok if the tensioner was off?

It can ya. belt might only be slipping under load

The mk2 focus has a weird charging circuit, hence the non-standard silver ion (afaik) battery.

Make sure the replacement battery is the correct type as a standard battery may not be 100% compatible

The car has an "intelligent" chargeing system ie computer controlled.
If the computer senses low voltage it will disable non essential electricial loads to preserve the battery power. This is probably what you experienced when some of the systems failed.

The battery is a silver calcium battery and can withstand the high voltages that this system can produce when chargeing the battery.

The alternator will continue to operate like a normal one if there's a failure of the intelligent system.

In other words, I would say your alternator is suspect.
