    In middle of new build.
Chatting to electrician yesterday planning socket locations etc

Just wondering about sorting connections for TV. He was a bit unsure.

Planning on putting sky box in sitting room. TV also in living room and he said he cud put HDMI cable from one to the other as they are more or less back to back.

In our old hse we have 2 cables coming from dish to sky box. Also rte cable coming in. We them have one output going to attic to a distribution box to the TVs. We have magic eyes on the TVs.

I heard things have changed a bit in the last few yrs. I just want to make sure I get it right and it is future proofed. Planning on goin with sky + again.

    Hope that make some sense!
    Tks

I recently added the following to a renovation:

3 * standard TV cables running to the attic
    1 * Cat 6 network cable

I am using all three TV cables
    • Saorview
    • Freesat
    • Cable Broadband.

having the Cat6 cable means I can plug the broadband router into the Cat 6 cabling and connect it up to other Cat 6 connection points throughout the house and be less dependant upon the wi-fi signal getting through walls / ceilings etc.

Google Diplexed faceplates. It will allow you to have Soarview and Freeview on a single coaxial cable. If your installing a sat, use a Quattro LNB (not a Quad) and a Multiswitch and you have have up to 8/12/16 etc TV's off a single sat. It'll cost you less that having 2 sat's. CAT6 should be good enough to stream HD.

I put 2 CAT6/Coaxial to each bedroom and 4 of each to the main living rooms (TV/Music/gaming/future) and its costs alot less now that in the future

This all seems complicated to me who knows absolutely nothing. I'm getting a builder to build my house. When and how do I discuss these requirements

Now is the time to sort it out.
Just tell the builder or spark what you want.
For Sky + you need two satellite feeds...one for HD and one for recording.
In my Living Room I had on my drawing "2x WF100 digital satellite TV outlets" and for Saorview "WF100 digital terrestrial TV outlet".
My master telephone socket is beside the TV in the living room, but I don't have a landline connected to my house.
For each of my 3 bedrooms I just have 1 satellite feed and 1 digital terrestrial feed.
My satellite dish LNB has 8 feeds (to serve the 5 satellite feeds) and there is a digital terrestrial box in my roofspace I assume to split the signal to the 4 outlets.
The builder/spark will be able to put in the cabling, but they will get a specialised satellite / TV guy in to do the rest.

Don't have a clue. Oh this will be fun. I'll just hope the builder/spark knows what I'm on about when I tell him I want wiring for a sky+ box in x y and z. I persume if I then went with sky tv that they'd just have to put up a dish and run the wire into a central generic box thing lol in the attic and then put sky boxes into the room I want the sky.

I only have a Sky box in my Living Room.
In the bedrooms I have Freesat.
Do you really need Sky in every room? Freesat isn't bad...I watch most of my TV on it in my bedroom. And it is free as opposed to paying an extra €10 or whatever it is for Sky Multi-Room.
The builder/spark will rather have you telling them now before any tracking of sockets or plastering is done.
They just need to put conduit pipe in the wall, put in the cable and either a single or double housing to take the outlet plates. Not that much work involved.
As I said...just walk the spark around the house and tell him what you want to watch in each room and where you foresee your TV being. Sky + HD needs two satellite feeds...Saorview needs one digital terrestrial feed...Freesat HD needs one satellite feed (two feeds if you want to record and have a suitable box).

I'm looking into this also - it's also worth running 2 Cat6 to each tv point. You can have a central media system (DVDs, BR, Digital library, sky, etc.) and HD signal down cat6 to each TV point. With smart TVs now on the rise, you may also need an internet connection.

I am currently finished the internal plastering in our new build house and getting ready for installing my underfloor heating and finished floor screed.

At first fix electric stage, I ran 4Nr RG6 Satellite cables from every bedroom, sitting room, office, dining room and living room to the attic. I also ran 2Nr Cat 6 cables from these rooms at the TV location again up to the attic. I also ran the phone line from the main point of entry into the house up to the attic. My plan is to have our broad band router box and modem in the attic that I can run internet to the TV'S and also so I can store films, movies, pictures, etc on the modem and I can watch on any TV.

I didn't run normal coaxial to any TV location as I spoke to a TV guy at the time along with my electrician and he said that satellite cable are best as it can cover me for sky, dreambox, TV, Saorview etc.

I will have sky box in the attic and split down to the rooms

Whatever you do make sure to use cable ducting and not just cables fed through Studded Walls. This way you can add or change cables as time moves on and technology moves advances further.
